INTRODUCTION:
To live a Christ-centred life means to make Jesus the focus, foundation, and purpose of all that we do. It is a life that reflects His character, submits to His will, and follows His example. In a world that promotes self, fame, and material success, a Christ-centred life stands out as a testimony of humility, surrender, and divine purpose.
The Christian life is not about adding Jesus to our own plans but yielding completely to His leadership. It is about shifting from a life controlled by the flesh to a life governed by the Spirit. Christ must not only be our Saviour but our Lord—reigning in every area of our lives.
Living a Christ-centred life empowers us to experience peace, purpose, and fruitfulness. It is the path to spiritual maturity and eternal relevance. Let us now explore how we can practically live this life daily.
1. DIE TO SELF AND LET CHRIST LIVE THROUGH YOU
True Christ-centred living begins with the death of self. Your ambitions, desires, and identity must be surrendered so that Christ can take His rightful place.
a) Galatians 2:20 – I Am Crucified with Christ
Living for Christ begins by dying to self-will and living in His will.
b) Luke 9:23 – Take Up Your Cross Daily
Following Christ demands daily sacrifice and total submission.
c) Philippians 1:21 – To Live is Christ
The essence of our lives must be wrapped up in Jesus.
d) Romans 6:6 – Our Old Man Was Crucified with Him
We are no longer controlled by the old nature but by Christ within.
Biblical Example: Paul’s transformation from persecutor to preacher shows a man who lived solely for Christ (Acts 9:1–22).
2. SEEK CHRIST ABOVE ALL ELSE
A Christ-centred life is marked by a consistent desire to know, follow, and please Jesus in every decision.
a) Matthew 6:33 – Seek First the Kingdom of God
Prioritising Christ positions us to experience His fullness.
b) Colossians 3:1-2 – Set Your Affection on Things Above
Focus on eternal things, not temporary pleasures.
c) Psalm 27:4 – One Thing I Seek… to Dwell in His Presence
Desire for Christ’s presence sustains a focused life.
d) Philippians 3:10 – That I May Know Him
Knowing Christ should be the believer’s lifelong pursuit.
Biblical Example: Mary of Bethany sat at Jesus’ feet, choosing the better portion (Luke 10:38–42).
3. ABIDE IN CHRIST FOR FRUITFULNESS
The Christ-centred life is not lived by human effort but by constant dependence on Jesus.
a) John 15:4 – Abide in Me and I in You
Remaining in close fellowship with Christ is the key to fruitfulness.
b) John 15:5 – Without Me You Can Do Nothing
Total reliance on Christ ensures divine results.
c) Romans 8:9 – If Anyone Does Not Have the Spirit of Christ
The indwelling Spirit is evidence of Christ at the centre.
d) 1 John 2:6 – Walk as He Walked
Abiding leads to imitating Christ’s way of life.
Biblical Example: The apostles’ power and boldness flowed from their continued relationship with Christ (Acts 4:13).
4. RENEW YOUR MIND DAILY THROUGH GOD’S WORD
A Christ-centred mind thinks, speaks, and acts like Christ. This happens by daily feeding on the Word.
a) Romans 12:2 – Be Transformed by the Renewing of Your Mind
Transformation begins in the mind by aligning with truth.
b) Colossians 3:16 – Let the Word of Christ Dwell in You Richly
Let Scripture shape your convictions and lifestyle.
c) 2 Corinthians 10:5 – Bring Every Thought into Captivity to Christ
Every mindset must submit to Christ’s authority.
d) Joshua 1:8 – Meditate on It Day and Night
The Word must guide your daily choices and direction.
Biblical Example: Jesus responded to temptation with the Word of God, showing the power of a renewed mind (Matthew 4:1-11).
CONCLUSION:
Living a Christ-centred life is the highest calling and the truest form of Christian living. It requires daily death to self, a burning desire for intimacy with Jesus, constant dependence on Him, and a mind governed by His Word. This kind of life is not only powerful—it is eternal.
God is calling His people to return to a place where Christ is not just part of their lives but the very centre. As we live in this reality, we will radiate His glory, bear lasting fruit, and fulfil our divine purpose. Let us choose to live for Christ, walk with Him, and reflect Him in every area of our lives.
