Little Is Much When It's All You Got
Contributed by Pastor/Author: Terry Sisney on Aug 13, 2002 (message contributor)
Summary: Little is much .....(when God is in it?) Yes but God is not in much of our little, The little God is in is the little that is our everything.
Mt. 15:32-38
Little: That word is used here to describe something small and insignificant. (puny) insufficient
But a little with the blessing of God on it fed 4,000 besides women and children
1Sam. 15:17 It was when saul was little in his own eyes. That God made him head of the tribes of Israel and anointed him to be their king.
2 Ki 4:2 I have nothing but a pot of oil = a little flask of oil. Multiplied to fill empty vessels from all over town, and pay her debt and sustain her the rest of her life.
1Ki 17:12-13 It was a little oil in a cruse and little cake that God used, to feed his prophet and end the famine in the life of the widow of zarephath.
1Ki 18:44 It was a little cloud the size of a man’s hand that was God’s signal the drought had been broken, and turned into a deluge.
Zec 4:10 For who hath despised the day of small things?
Little is much when God is in it. God can take that which is insignificant and small and weak and despised and work miracles.
The sad thing is that for many of God’s people this has gendered the mentality, to justify stinginess, To say that any puny measley offering we give to God is blessed, and that God, is counting himself fortunate to get anything from us.
(I want to qualify this statement, and I believe scriptures, bear me out)
Little is much when God is in it…………(when it’s all you have)
Little is much when it’s everything.
God is not in our little, unless our little is everything.
*The widow womans little oil and little cake, was her everything
*The 7 loaves and few little fishes, was everything they had
*The little Pot of oil was everything she had.
Mk 12:41-43 (TLB)
41Then he went over to the collection boxes in the Temple and sat and watched as the crowds dropped in their money. Some who were rich put in large amounts.
42Then a poor widow came and dropped in two pennies.
43He called his disciples to him and remarked, "That poor widow has given more than all those rich men put together! For they gave a little of their extra fat, while she gave up her last penny."
Jesus said: They cast in of their surplus, and never even felt it.
But the little this woman gave was her everything, (Her living)
This is the spirit of giving that God is looking for, Men and Women of God who will give of themselves, They will give themselves completely.
Too many times, we are guilty of giving God the leftovers, That which we don’t need. Let’s see, when all my bills are paid, and all my groceries are bought, and all my recreation is paid for, (wow I have $5.00 left for God.) then we pat ourselves on the back and say (well)little is much when God is in it .
Ro 12:1 beseech you therefore brethren by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies, a living sacrifice, Holy and acceptable unto God which is your reasonable service.
Mal 1:6-8 (TLB)
6"A son honors his father, a servant honors his master. I am your Father and Master, yet you don’t honor me, O priests, but you despise my name." "Who? Us?" you say. "When did we ever despise your name?"
7"When you offer polluted sacrifices on my altar." "Polluted sacrifices? When have we ever done a thing like that?" "Every time you say, ’Don’t bother bringing anything very valuable to offer to God!’
8You tell the people, ’Lame animals are all right to offer on the altar of the Lord-- yes, even the sick and the blind ones.’ And you claim this isn’t evil? Try it on your governor sometime-- give him gifts like that-- and see how pleased he is!
This is not only talking about money, but it is the very spirit and heart of our giving that he is dealing with.
Yes little is much, when it’s everything,
God is not interested in our left overs,
Who is getting your best?
Is it your church? Your family? Your Job?
What is God getting from us? From you? Is God getting your left overs.
Do you say to yourself, well little is much when God is in it, so I’m just going to give him this little bit and see what he can do with it.
David said. I will not give to the Lord, that which costs me nothing
In other words David said, God deserves my best.
Little is much: When it’s everything.
