Summary: The people of God refused to obey the Lord and they became useless and worthless like the ruined waistband! This message comes as a warning for every believer to pause and consider their life!
Linen waistband (girdle)
Jeremiah 13:7”…the waistband was ruined, it was totally worthless.”
Jeremiah chapter 13 begins with the Lord instructing prophet Jeremiah to buy a linen waistband or girdle and put it around his waist; however, he was asked not to put in water. Then the voice of the Lord came the second time telling ‘ go and hide the waistband in the Euphrates.’ After many days the LORD said to me to go and take the waistband, from the place where I had hidden it; but alas the waistband was ruined and totally worthless. The Lord desired the people of Judah and Jerusalem to cling to Him closely like the way the girdle clings to the waist; however, the people of God refused to obey the Lord and they became useless and worthless like the ruined waistband! This message comes as a warning for every believer to pause and consider their life!
Yesterday a pastor with tears preached and said, ‘if this COVID-19 crisis, death of thousands of people and the sudden invasion of locusts does not bother or affect the Christians then what will?’ Exactly. Yesterday, a Christian lady gave a prayer request like this, “ kindly pray for my self control because in this lockdown period I am eating too much and thereby I am unable to pray.” I am not kidding this is the exact prayer request. Are you not shocked?
The girl who used to do scripture reading during my meetings, suddenly stopped and said that she cannot do it anymore. Even after 15 years of salvation, people do not want to grow spiritually but still they want to remain mere church-goers. I have seen wonderful potential in many Christians who can translate well, sing beautifully, express emotions in dramas, can teach and so many other talents but they just live a normal life without investing in the kingdom of God. Their life is like the ruined LINEN WAISTBAND says the Lord; however, mark this point here, God is upset and angry with such people, He said: “I created them that they might be for Me a people, for renown, for praise and for glory; but they did not listen.'(11) Apart from going to work and cooking food, what do you do for God? Think of the worthless TV shows you watched? Money you spent? Time you wasted?
Where are your priorities? Did you do anything that really mattered this week? You can repent cry over wasted time or as usual throw my devotion into the dust bin. Choice is yours. God bless you!
