Scripture

Paul, an apostle (not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised Him from the dead),

2and all the brethren who are with me, To the churches of Galatia:

3Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ,

4who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,

5to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. Galatians 1:1-5

Introduction

During times of great tragedy the Red Cross rescue worker is there rebuilding lives, restoring hope. In many ways that Jesus is like the rescue worker for the Red Cross. Let us consider . . .

1. His Ministry

A. Universal

The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9

B. Sacrificial

For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, 6who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time, 1 Timothy 2:5-6

2. His Message

A. Urgent

Thus says the LORD: "In an acceptable time I have heard You, And in the day of salvation I have helped You; I will preserve You and give You As a covenant to the people, To restore the earth, Isaiah 49:8

To cause them to inherit the desolate heritages;

B. Salvation

For He says: "In an acceptable time I have heard you, And in the day of salvation I have helped you."

Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. 2 Corinthians 6:2

3. His Motive

A. Unconditional Love

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

B. Self-less Love

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Conclusion

In his book "Living Beyond the Limits" Franklin Graham tell of a man who had watched as his friends died trying to escape the MGM Hotel fire in 1979.

The man, convinced that he could not climb down the fire rope and save himself, gave up.

At that moment a fireman grabbed him, stuck an oxygen mask on him, and rescued him.

When we realize that we cannot save ourselves, there is a Rescue Worker who can--Jesus!
