Preach Christmas week
Explores how God's Spirit fortifies our faith, guiding us through adversities and towards redemption when we turn from our transgressions.
Welcome, dear friends. It's always a joy to gather together in fellowship, to share in the warmth of God's love, and to delve into the richness of His Word. As we gather today, let's find comfort in the knowledge that we are not alone in our struggles, for God is with us, ready to guide us through every storm.
We are about to embark on an exploration of Isaiah 59:19-20. The prophet Isaiah, in his divine wisdom, penned these verses as a beacon of hope for those facing adversity. They read:
"So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him. And the Redeemer will come to Zion, to those in Jacob who turn from transgression,” declares the LORD."
These verses remind us that we are not left to face our foes alone, but our faith is fortified by the very Spirit of the Lord. We are blessed with favor when we turn from our transgressions and look to our Redeemer.
In the book of Isaiah, we find a powerful image of the enemy coming in like a flood. This image is not unfamiliar to us. We all have faced, or are facing, situations in our lives that feel like a flood. These are situations that overwhelm us, that seem too big or too difficult to handle. They could be financial struggles, health issues, relationship problems, or even spiritual battles. These are our foes, the enemies that come in like a flood. It tells us that when the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will raise a standard against him. This is a promise of God's protection and deliverance. It is a promise that no matter how big or how difficult our situation may be, God is bigger and more powerful. He is our defender and our deliverer.
We are not alone: God is with us. He is our refuge and our strength, an ever-present help in trouble. He is our shield and our defender. When we are overwhelmed, He is there to lift us up and to give us strength. He is there to fight our battles for us.
God's protection is not passive: He does not just sit back and watch as we struggle. He actively fights for us. The verse says that He will raise a standard against our enemies. This is a military term that refers to a rallying point or a battle flag. It is a symbol of defiance against the enemy and a call to rally the troops. God is not just our protector, He is our warrior.
God's deliverance: It’s not just about getting us out of trouble. It is about bringing us into a place of victory. The verse says that the Redeemer will come to Zion, to those in Jacob who turn from transgression. This is a promise of redemption and restoration. It is a promise that God will not only deliver us from our enemies, but He will also restore us to a place of righteousness and peace.
God's deliverance is conditional: It is for those who turn from transgression. This means that we have a part to play in our deliverance. We need to repent of our sins and turn to God. We need to put our trust in Him and follow His ways. We need to surrender our lives to Him and let Him fight our battles for us.
As we continue to immerse ourselves in the wisdom of Isaiah's words, we find ourselves drawn to the concept of faith ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
