Summary: A message based upon Joseph’s interpretation of the butler’s and baker’s dreams.

LIFE’S SADDEST MISTAKE

Genesis 41:9

INTRO: Most anyone can see his mistake after it is already made, and often to late to fix. There is one mistake that we can make that we cannot fix. That is "Life’s Saddest Mistake."

I. THE CHIEF BUTLER’S MISTAKE.

1. He was once in prison with Joseph (Gen. 40:3-4).

2. The Butler and Baker both had dreams (Gen. 40:5-6).

3. Joseph interprets their dreams (Gen. 40: 12-13).

a. Joseph makes a request of the butler (vv. 14-15).

b. The butler forgets Joseph (v. 23).

II. THE BUTLER CONFESSES HIS MISTAKE.

1. The butler makes no effort to have Joseph delivered as long as

everything went well for him.

2. The King’s dream brought a cloud of sorrow over the entire land.

3. The trouble stirred the butler’s memory (Gen. 41:8).

4. It often takes serious trouble in the home or otherwise to bring

us to reality.

III. JUDAS CONFESSES HIS MISTAKE (Matt. 27:35).

1. He had sold his Christ.

2. He saw his mistake.

3. He comes to those he had sold Jesus to for help (v. 3).

4. Judas repents and confesses his mistake but it is too late.

a. There is a different Greek word used here than the one for

repentance.

b. The word used herd means: "Regret." "A change of mind."

c. It is different from the word meaning: "Remorse ." "A change

of heart."

IV. LIFE’S SADDEST MISTAKE.

1. Failing to accept Christ in youth.

2. Wasting a long life in sin.

3. Coming to death without God.

CONC: Won’t you correct this mistake now before it is to late for you to correct it?

Judas waited too late to correct his mistake.

Don’t you do the same.
