INTRODUCTION

A young man once stood at the crossroads of life, wondering which path to take. One road promised wealth and pleasure, the other righteousness and purpose. He pondered, “What is the meaning of life?” Many have asked this question through the ages, seeking to understand the purpose of their existence.

Life is a gift from God, given for a divine purpose. Some live aimlessly, while others fulfil their God-ordained destiny. What is the essence of life? Why are we here? How can we live life to the fullest as God intended?

Let us explore what life truly means through the lens of God’s Word.

1. LIFE COMES FROM GOD

In the beginning, God formed man from the dust and breathed into him the breath of life (Genesis 2:7). Life did not come by accident; it is God’s creation and gift.

Genesis 2:7 – "Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being."

Life is not a mistake—it is God’s intentional design.

Every breath we take is a reminder of His sustaining power.

Have you acknowledged God as the source of your life?

2. LIFE IS SHORT AND UNPREDICTABLE

A rich man built great barns, thinking he had secured his future, but God said, “You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you.” (Luke 12:20).

Life is fragile; we are here today and gone tomorrow. That is why we must live wisely.

James 4:14 – "You do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes."

Many chase temporary things and forget eternal matters.

Psalm 90:12 – "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom."

How are you spending your time on earth?

3. LIFE HAS A DIVINE PURPOSE

A man once travelled far in search of meaning, only to realise that his purpose was already in God’s Word.

God created each person for a reason. We are not here by chance, but to fulfil His divine assignment.

Ecclesiastes 12:13 – "Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind."

Life is not just about survival—it is about serving God.

Philippians 1:21 – "For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain."

Are you walking in God’s purpose for your life?

4. LIFE WITHOUT GOD IS EMPTY

A king had wealth, power, and wisdom, but at the end of his life, he said, “Everything is meaningless.” (Ecclesiastes 1:2). Without God, life is empty.

Many seek fulfilment in riches, fame, or pleasure, but true life is found only in Christ.

John 14:6 – "Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’"

Jesus gives meaning and purpose to life.

Without Christ, life is like a journey without a destination.

Have you surrendered your life to Jesus?

5. LIFE IN CHRIST IS ABUNDANT AND ETERNAL

Jesus did not just come to give existence—He came to give abundant life (John 10:10).

Life in Christ is:

A life of peace and joy (Romans 14:17).

A life of divine direction (Proverbs 3:5-6).

A life that leads to eternal glory (John 3:16).

The greatest tragedy is to live and die without Christ. But for those in Christ, life does not end at death—it continues in eternity with God.

Where will you spend eternity?

CONCLUSION:

Life is more than just breathing and existing—it is about knowing and walking with God.

Have you acknowledged God as the giver of your life?

Are you using your life to fulfil His purpose?

Have you surrendered to Jesus Christ, the source of true life?

Do not waste the precious gift of life. Live each day for His glory!
