Let Your Spirit Rest in Me
HHM Pastor Jim Parisi 6-23-02
Today I am going to speak on the Holy Spirit.
Most do not have much understanding about the third part of the God head.
Many questions arise when we ask about this part of the trinity
Let’s see first where the bible tells who and What He is
He is.
1Jo 5:7 -
For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.
We know that Jesus is the word. In
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
This is the proof that the Holy Spirit is God.
Thru the ages, men have fought great wars in their own strength.
Some have even become great icons in history.
Schoolbooks are filled with the stories of their vast campaigns.
All their strength and might pale to the power that lives inside of each of you.
Who is this Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit is the source of power by which believers come to Christ and see with new eyes of faith.
He is closer than any word short of “within us” can describe
The Holy Spirit lives inside of each and every Christian.
We are the God chosen vessels that contains His Spirit.
2 Timothy 1:14 That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.
The Holy Spirit is Invisible to the world… but Indwells in Believers.
He was sent by God after Jesus left this earth, to guide and comfort His people.
John 14:16/17 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever-- 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
Earthly fellowship with the Lord Jesus was about to be terminated. The Holy Spirit (“the Lord’s other self,” would come to abide with us forever..
He rarely shows himself as the center of focus.
He would rather our eyes be fixed upon Jesus Christ the one through whom all life is to be seen in its new light.
His chief function is to illuminate Jesus’ teachings, To glorify His person and to work in the lives of the individual as well as the church.
He reveals the Deep things of god and the mystery of Christ to a person.
The Holy Spirit is the present avenue on earth of expressed power of the Godhead.
We need to be careful not to grieve the Spirit of God.
Luke 12:10-12 10 And anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but to him who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven
Eph 4:30
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
Where does He choose to live.. In our HEARTS
GO figure of all the places He could reside in the universe He chooses the HEARTS of man.
Not my First Choice. Have you looked around where he lives? (Mirror)
He calls our bodies His Temple and lives inside of us.
2Co 13:14 -
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.
Communion = Spiritual union between man and God, occupying the same space.
How do we prepare? How do we get His temple ready?
Notice I sad HIS Temple not Mine?
1Co 6:19 – Bible in Plain English translation
Or are you not conscious that your body is a house for the Holy Spirit which is in you, and which has been given to you by God? and you are not the owners of yourselves;
Are you conscious that
Your body / your life, which is no longer yours,
remember you gave it to the Lord for the Cause of Christ.
Is it the temple of the Holy Ghost?
It’s not things of this world that should rule us in our quest to be like Jesus
Ro 14:17 - for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
You were purchased for a PRICE.
Jesus Christ hung on a tree for your salvation.
1 Corinthians 6:19/20 - 19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
