LET NOT YOUR HEART BE TROUBLED

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: John 14:1-3

Supporting Texts: Isaiah 41:10, Philippians 4:6-7, Psalm 46:1-3, 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

INTRODUCTION:

In a world filled with uncertainty, fear, bad news, and instability, many hearts are weighed down with anxiety. Jesus, knowing the human tendency to worry in the face of trouble, gave a direct and comforting command to His disciples: “Let not your heart be troubled.” This statement remains relevant today.

Jesus was preparing His disciples for His departure, and He knew they would be filled with sorrow and confusion. But He encouraged them to place their trust not in circumstances but in God and in Himself. His words were both a command and a promise—a command not to be troubled, and a promise of peace and a glorious future.

As believers, we are not exempt from trouble. But we are empowered to rise above it through our faith in Christ. Our peace comes not from the absence of trouble, but from the presence of Christ. No matter what we face today, Jesus assures us that we can live above fear and anxiety.

1.  TRUSTING GOD IN TROUBLED TIMES

Our hearts remain calm when our trust is anchored in God’s unchanging character.

a) Faith Dispels Fear

Trust in God drives away the fear of the unknown (Isaiah 41:10).

b) God Is Still in Control

Even in chaos, God rules and reigns (Psalm 46:10).

c) Jesus Is the Anchor of Our Soul

He holds us steady through every storm (Hebrews 6:19).

d) God’s Promises Are Our Assurance

His Word is a shield to those who believe (Proverbs 30:5).

Biblical Example – David facing Goliath with total trust in God (1 Samuel 17:45-47)

2.   THE PEACE OF CHRIST IN THE MIDST OF CHAOS

The peace Jesus gives is not as the world gives—it surpasses human understanding.

a) Peace Is a Gift from God

Jesus gives peace that calms troubled hearts (John 14:27).

b) Guarding Our Minds with God's Word

Meditating on Scripture brings peace (Isaiah 26:3).

c) Prayer Brings Peace

Worry ends where prayer begins (Philippians 4:6-7).

d) Jesus Is in Our Boat

With Him on board, we will not sink (Mark 4:39-40).

Biblical Example – Jesus calming the storm (Mark 4:35-41)

3.  FOCUSING ON THE HOPE OF HEAVEN

The promise of heaven gives us strength to endure earthly troubles.

a) Heaven Is Our Eternal Home

Jesus has gone to prepare a place for us (John 14:2).

b) This World Is Temporary

Our present sufferings are momentary (2 Corinthians 4:17-18).

c) Live with Eternity in View

Keeping our eyes on heaven helps us endure trials (Colossians 3:1-2).

d) Christ Will Come Again

His return is our blessed hope (Titus 2:13).

Biblical Example – Stephen’s vision of heaven as he was being martyred (Acts 7:55-56)

CONCLUSION:

Beloved, the command “Let not your heart be troubled” is not a suggestion—it is a divine call to unwavering trust in Christ. No matter the storms of life, the fears of tomorrow, or the losses of today, you can live above trouble through faith in Jesus.

Look beyond your present circumstances and set your heart on Christ and His promises. He is preparing a place for you, and He will surely return. Until then, live in peace, walk in faith, and let your heart be filled with hope.

PRAYER POINTS:

1. Father, help me to trust You completely in times of trouble.

2. Lord Jesus, fill my heart with Your peace that surpasses understanding.

3. I reject every spirit of anxiety and receive divine rest.

4. Father, let the hope of heaven keep me joyful and steadfast.
