Lessons I Didn’t Know I Learned
June 20, 2004
Father’s Day
1) Nickels and dimes can kill you
Teach your children the joy of generosity.
“Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and should give generously to those in need, always being willing to share with others what God has given to them.”
I Timothy 6:18 (NLT)
God rewards generosity.
“And the king will tell them, ‘I assure you, whenever you did it to the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me.’” Matthew 25:40 (NLT)
2) Laugh at yourself and join the crowd
A sense of humor is a lifelong gift.
“There’s an opportune time to do things, a right time for everything on earth… a time to cry and another to laugh.”
Ecc.3:1 &4A (The Message)
Don’t take yourself too seriously.
“So I tell each of you not to think better of yourselves than you really are.”
Romans 12:3 (Contemporary English Version)
3) Hold what you got
Be content with where God has placed you.
“I’ve learned to be quite content whatever my circumstances. I’m just as happy with little as with much, with much as with little.”
Philippians 4:11(The Message)
As Dad’s, we sometimes spell love T H I N G S
Our families spell love T I M E
4) Set a spiritual example
Model Christ in your actions and words.
“Father’s don’t exasperate your children by coming down hard on them. Take them by the hand and lead them in the way of the Master.” Eph. 6:4 (The Message)
