Summary: From the Prophet Haggai and the Nation of Judah we learn some solemn lessons for time and eternity.

TEXT: HAGGAI

TITLE: LESSONS FROM HAGGAI

#1. UNFAITHFULNESS TO THE LORD HAS SEVERE CONSEQUENCES: [1:2; 2:2]

A. Rebuild [1:2]

B. Residue [2:2]

These two words show us the severe consequences Judah had suffered for their unfaithfulness to the Lord. The Babylonians had destroyed their Temple and many of the people who had not been killed or escaped to Egypt, had been deported to Babylon. All was the result of their unfaithfulness to the Lord.

#11. REPENTANCE MAY NOT MEAN EVERYTHING WILL BE AS IT WAS: [2:3]

Even though the Nation had endured their chastening and the people to whom Haggai was speaking to had returned to the land and had made an attempt to rebuild their lives and their nation, it was not going to be as glorious as it had once been.

Our SINS will always limit our future. Even when we repent and return unto the Lord, we may find as did Judah, things may never be what it once was, even though the Lord has forgiven us and restored our fellowship with Him.

A. Relationships May Never Be the Same

B. Responsibilities May Never Be the Same

C. Riches May Never Be the Same

#111. IN THE COMING KINGDOM AGE JESUS WILL MAKE EVERYTHING BETTER THAN IT EVER WAS: [2:7-9]

Haggai encourages his people, that even though things were not what they once was their repentance and rebuilding was well worth their efforts. To these faithful the Lord will one day destroy all the works of man’s hands and establish His Kingdom, a Kingdom that will be more glorious than anything the hands and minds of men has ever created.

The hope that Calvary gives to frail sinners is that one day Jesus will make all things new, [Revelation 21:5] our old sinful nature and it’s severe consequences upon ourselves and others will be a thing of the painful past.

What a glorious day that will be, all because of Jesus’ love for us that was demonstrated at Calvary.
