Summary: Get out of the boat and stay on the Water

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be able to walk on water. Someone else besides Jesus did walk on the water. Walking on water may seem to be impossible, however, the Word tells us in Philippians 4:13 “ I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” Today’s scripture is Matthew 14:22-33. It tells the story of how Jesus walks on water and how Peter also got out of the boat and walked on the water. You see, Peter had the Faith to step out of the boat, he walked for a bit on the water, then, he got so distracted by the storm and waves that he began to sink.

A couple things I want to point out here. 1) When they saw Jesus, they didn’t immediately recognize him. In verse 26 they thought it was a ghost. 2) Even when Jesus spoke to them, they didn’t recognize his voice either. In verse 28 Peter said if it’s you bid me to come unto you. This is important to notice, because although Peter was unsure, he still stepped out of the boat.

Stepping out of the boat was certainly an act of Faith. The amount of Faith to step out of the boat was undoubtedly enough. Peter’s amount of Faith was not the problem. Peter's problem was his length of Faith. He had the amount of Faith to step out, but not the length of Faith to keep walking. When he saw the winds and the waves, it distracted him. He apparently took his eyes off of Jesus. That’s when his length of Faith shortened.

I kind of liken that story to our lives today. We have the amount of Faith to believe that we are healed in Jesus name, however, when the Drs reports come in ( the winds and the waves) we have a tendency to not have the length of Faith to endure to the end. You see, scripture tells us that Peter began to sink. He didn’t just get plunged in the water over his head. He wasn’t drowning. He wasn’t trying to swim. He simply began to sink. And at the perfect and most opportune time, Jesus reached out His hand and caught him.

I believe, that if needed, we too can walk on the water. I also believe that Jesus reaches out His hand continually to keep us from going completely under water. I would like to challenge each of us, yes, myself included, to not only have the amount of Faith needed ( That of a mustard seed) to over come any and all obstacles, but to have the length of Faith to endure until the end. I hope this message will touch someone’s heart and that it will encourage you to hold on, never give up or give in. Remain Faithful in your walk and I promise you, He will always remain Faithful to you. God bless, Deacon
