LEADERSHIP- LIVING DAY TO DAY
1 Timothy 6:1-21
Introduction:
I have enjoyed the Student Workers that I have had this Summer. At my School job, I have 3 Student Workers that are attending the NMJC; and 1 High School Senior. The girls have figured out that I enjoy telling stories; and I have shared many stories with them this Summer. I often talk to them about how you live from day to day. Many of the people I work with are not Christians; and they need to see that my day to day is not like theirs. How you live each day matters and that is what Paul was telling Timothy.
1 Timothy 6:1-2
Whether you work for a Christian or a lost person, we are told to show them respect. This is a part of the day to day living that I am talking about. This morning, there are some things that you need to know to live in a way daily that pleases God.
1 Timothy 6:11
Know what to…
1. Flee from.
There are things that you need to run from. Do not allow any of these things to be a part of your life.
1 Timothy 6:3-4a
Run from…
* Pride.
Pride goes before the fall. Not listening to the Word of God can put you in a tough spot. People start thinking they know more than others and they are conceited and understand nothing.
1 Timothy 6:4b-5
Run from…
* Anger.
Do not get involved in arguing about things that do not matter. Avoid following the trends of the World; and do not sin in your anger.
1 Timothy 6:6-8
Run from…
* Ambition.
Don’t spend your days trying to figure out how to get ahead of everyone. Be content with everything you have. Do not forget, “You can’t take it with you”.
1 Timothy 6:9-10; 17-19
Run from…
* Greed.
Verse 10 is 1 of the most misquoted verses in the Bible. Many say, “Money is the root of all evil”- That is incorrect. It is the love of money that is the root of all evil. It is not a sin to have money. It is not a sin to be poor. Use the resources God gives you to help others and further the mission of Christ.
1 Timothy 6:11
Know what to…
2. Focus on.
God tells us to flee all of these evils; and pursue Him.
Pursue…
* Righteousness and godliness.
Strive to be godly in all that you do. Live right. Desire living like Jesus all of the time.
Pursue…
* Faith and love.
Trust in the Lord for all things. Live a life of faith- Faith is believing in something that none of your senses pick up on. Pursue the love of God- That love that is unconditional.
Pursue…
* Endurance and gentleness.
To endure requires patience. You must keep going- Don’t quit. Be gentle.
1 Timothy 6:12
Know what to…
3. Fight for.
Fight the good fight of the faith. That means that you are fighting for the Lord. There are some things worth fighting for, and your faith in Jesus Christ is at the top of the list.
Find strength in your…
* Calling.
Christians, God has placed a calling on your life. When you got saved, it was more than just going to Heaven.
Find strength in your…
* Confession.
The day that you believed in your heart and confessed with your mouth that Jesus Christ is the Son of God raised from the dead; you were saved.
1 Timothy 6:13-16
Know what to…
4. Be faithful to.
Who or what are you faithful to?
Be faithful to…
* The charge of the Lord.
Be faithful to…
* The commandment of the Lord.
Be faithful until…
* The coming of the Lord.
Be faithful to…
* Your confession of the Lord.
Conclusion:
1 Timothy 6:20-21
Paul ends this letter by telling Timothy to guard what God had entrusted to his care. I will conclude with the same advice- Don’t get distracted by what the enemy is doing; and guard what God has entrusted to your care.
