Summary: Knowing Jesus helps us through life and will certainly help us at the end of life.

Luke 24:13-35 knowing Jesus

1. The Disciples were walking to Emmaus and they shared

• They talked about the things that had happened

• Then, Jesus begins walking with them , 16 but their eyes were kept from recognizing him. 17 And he said to them, “What are you discussing with each other while you walk along?”

• They said, looking sad.[b] 18 Then one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only stranger in Jerusalem who does not know the things that have taken place there in these days?”

2. They know a lot about Jesus They knew His name and where He was from

• They knew He was a Prophet. They knew He was mighty in deed and word.

• They knew He was crucified. They knew He promised to redeem Israel.

• They knew others had said He rose from the dead

3. There is a lot they don’t know about Jesus

• they didn’t know what the prophets had foretold,

• they didn’t know that the messiah should suffer then enter into his glory,

• they didn’t know he had risen or chose to question what they were told by the women,

• they didn’t know after hearing his teaching from the Hebrew Scripture who he was but he probably taught just like Jesus because he was Jesus

• They did not know the one before them is The “Great I am” The blessing of Abraham, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, The Voice form the burning bush, The Passover Lamb, Suffering Savior, They did not know he is Good Shepherd

4. They know Jesus now because they experienced transformation, encounter of divine

• The two they say “did our hearts not burn within” as he talked they experienced

• Just as the stranger is breaking bread, it suddenly dawns on the two of them who he is.

• How is it that Christ will recognize us? If the blood is applied, spirit of God dwelling within ,

.

5. Consider this thought How the great the small, the poor the rich are Known

• There’s a well-known story about the funeral of Charlemagne, holy Roman emperor and ruler of the Frankish people in the early Middle Ages. Charlemagne governed most of present-day France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Italy.

• When this renowned emperor died, his soldiers bore his casket, in a mighty procession, from his castle to the great cathedral at Aix.

• There, the procession was met by the local bishop. He physically barred the cathedral door with his body.“Who comes?” the bishop demanded, according to ancient custom.

• “Charlemagne, Lord and King of the Holy Roman Empire,” proclaimed the emperor’s herald. “Him I know not,” the bishop replied. “Who comes?”

• The herald, a bit shaken, replied, “Charles the Great, a good and honest man of the earth.”“Him I know not,” the bishop said again. “Who comes?”

• Trying a third time, the herald responded, “Charles, a lowly sinner, who begs the gift of Christ.”To which the bishop — Christ’s representative on earth — responded, “Enter! Receive Christ’s gift of life!” Charlemagne, during his life, was certainly well-known. But in death, the only knowing that truly mattered was the fact that he was known by Jesus Christ.

1. Finally, the two on Emmaus road they know one thing for sure they want Jesus to stay with them

• Verse 29 says, “But they urged him strongly, saying, ‘Stay with us, So he went in to stay with them.”

• Stay with us Jesus while I am hurting while I am suffering, while I am living and while I am dying

• Stay with us as we walk our Emmaus road, stay with us so we learn more about you

• Stay with us so we can be known by you Lord,

• Stay with us so we can know you’re the lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world
