Summary: Knowing God’s Will

Psalm 32 Knowing God’s Will

8 “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. 9 Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee”

Isaiah 58:11: “And the LORD shall guide thee continually.”

Proverbs 3:6: “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

I. The Will Principle

Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” To know the will of God? Don’t surrender to a plan. Surrender to a person

Psalm 37:4 Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart

II. The Word Principle

Psalm 119:105: “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

This is the will of God—even your salvation - It’s not God's will that any should perish

This is the will of God—even your sanctification. 1Thess 4:3 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:

This is the will of God—even your separation. - 2 Cor 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, 18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

III. The Wisdom Principle

James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Acts 8:29 “Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot”

Acts 13:2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.

If an Experience is Contrary to Scripture, Then You Know it is Wrong

Peter, James, and John were with the Lord Jesus Christ on the Mount of Transfiguration. They saw Jesus glorified, and they heard God the Father speaking out of Heaven. And then, Peter tells about that in

2 Peter 1:17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. 18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: ......21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Proverbs 4:18 “the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day”

God Will Use Your Mind

1. Using Common Sense

2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

Eph 5:17: Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

2. Common Sense Cannot Always Rule

Luke 5:5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

IV. The Walk Principle

Proverbs 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

The word direct, here, literally has the idea of a bulldozer clearing the way. It is not just that He opens the way or shows you the way; actually, He clears the way.

Gen 24:27: “And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham, who hath not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth: I being in the way, the LORD led me.”

As I was going, while I was on my way, the Lord led me. There is the walk principle.

Psalm 37:23The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way “What if I make a mistake?” 24“Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand”
