Know Your Enemy

June 19, 2016 Morning Service

Immanuel Baptist Church, Wagoner, OK

Rick Boyne

Message Point: Our Enemy is defeated by the mighty hand of God.

Focus Passage: Revelation 20:6-10

Supplemental Passage: No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (Romans 8:37)

Introduction: The Devil gets credit for a whole lot of things he didn’t have anything to do with. But, he’ll take that credit because it brings him glory.

I. Past

a. Anointed Cherub (Ezekiel 28:14)

b. Cast out of Heaven (took 1/3 of angels) (Rev 12:4)

c. Troubler of Job (Job 1)

d. Tempter of Jesus (Matthew 4)

i. Stones into bread

ii. Throw self from pinnacle

iii. Be given everything in exchange for worship

II. Present

a. Deceiver/Liar (Rev 12:9)

b. Adversary - “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8 NASB)

c. Not omniscient, not omnipresent, cannot read your mind, cannot make a believer do anything, cannot possess a believer, distraction and discouragement are his preferred tactics among American Christians,

III. Future

a. Defeated

b. Thrown into Lake of Fire: “And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.” (Revelation 20:10 NASB)

Application/Invitation: “greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.” (1 John 4:4b NASB)

Two lessons to be learned: 1) Satan fell from Heaven because of Pride. 2) Jesus is greater than Satan and will defeat him.
