King of kings and Lord of lords

This morning we looked at Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem. As the Jews hailed Him as their coming king they waved the palm branches and scattered their cloaks before Him. In only a week’s time, the tide turned. Just a week later many of these same people were shouting “Crucify Him”.

Tonight we will look at a time when Jesus will have “The” triumphal entry.

Rev 19:11-16

11 I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. "He will rule them with an iron scepter." He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:

KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

NIV

I. John saw the “Faithful and True”

a. they say the only thing you can count on is death and taxes. The only thing you can really count on is Jesus. He is Faithful and True.

b. Ps 33:4 - For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does.

c. Ps 145:13 - The LORD is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made.

d. Heb 10:23 - Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.

e. 1 John 1:9 - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

II. His eyes were like a blazing fire

a. If you were to hear that someone’s eyes were like fire, you’d probably think they were experiencing what emotion? Anger. When someone is angry they are seeking justice for some wrongdoing. Here we see Jesus described as having eyes like a blazing fire. He’s not angry here, but He is seeking justice for sin. Be assured that there is no sin that will go unseen. Jesus sees us and He is searching us. If you are a disciple of Christ, then Jesus is refining you as a refiner’s fire. Purging the impurity of sin from your life that you might be spotless and pure.

III. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood

a. Jesus paid the sin debt with His own blood.

IV. His name is the “Word”.

a. What did John’s gospel say? John 1:1-4

1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.

3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men.

V. When He comes, He will bring the armies of God with Him. Satan will finally be defeated. He was defeated already when Jesus rose on the third day. But on this triumphant day Jesus will lock him away for good. No longer will he be able to walk around seeking whom he may devour.

VI. On His robe was a name written – King of kings and Lord of lords.

Is He your king?

My King

by Dr. S.M. Lockridge

The Bible says my King is a seven-way king....He’s the King of the Jews; that’s a racial king....He’s the King of Israel; that’s a national King....He’s the King of Righteousness....He’s the King of the Ages.....He’s the King of Heaven....He’s the King of Glory....He’s the King of kings, and He’s the Lord of lords. That’s my King. Well....I wonder, do you know Him?.... David said, "The Heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament shows His handiwork. My King is a sovereign King. No means of measure can define His limitless love. No far seeing telescope can bring into visibility the coastline of His shoreless supply. No barrier can hinder Him from pouring out His blessings. He’s enduringly strong....He’s entirely sincere....He’s eternally steadfast....He’s immortally graceful....He’s imperially powerful....He’s impartially merciful....... Do you know Him?

He’s the greatest phenomenon that ever crossed the horizon of this world. He’s God’s Son....He’s a sinner’s Saviour....He’s the centerpiece of civilization....He stands in the solitude of Himself....He’s august....He’s unique....He’s unparalleled....He’s unprecedented....He’s the loftiest idea in literature....He’s the highest personality in philosophy....He’s the supreme problem in higher criticism....He’s the fundamental doctrine of true theology....He’s the cardinal necessity for spiritual religion....He’s the miracle of the age.... He’s the superlative of everything good that you choose to call Him....He’s the only one qualified to be an all sufficient Saviour...... I wonder if you know Him today?
