INTRODUCTION
Life is a journey filled with ups and downs. There are moments of joy and victory, but there are also seasons of hardship, pain, and uncertainty. Many believers find themselves in situations where they feel like giving up—whether in their faith, career, family, or personal struggles. However, the Bible encourages us to “hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; for he is faithful that promised” (Hebrews 10:23).
Holding on in difficult times requires faith, patience, and trust in God’s promises. The enemy wants to use trials to weaken our faith and make us doubt God’s love and power. But as believers, we must remember that every trial is temporary, and God is working behind the scenes for our good (Romans 8:28).
In this sermon, we will examine why we must keep holding on, how to endure through difficult seasons, and the rewards of trusting in God despite the challenges.
1. WHY YOU MUST KEEP HOLDING ON
God has a purpose for every challenge we go through, and perseverance is key to victory.
a) God is faithful to His promises (Numbers 23:19)
What God has spoken concerning your life will surely come to pass.
b) Every trial has an expiry date (2 Corinthians 4:17)
No matter how difficult things seem, the storm will not last forever.
c) Your endurance produces spiritual growth (James 1:3-4)
Trials refine and strengthen our faith, making us spiritually mature.
d) Holding on is an act of trust in God (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Trusting in God even when we don’t understand proves our faith in Him.
e) Biblical Example: Job’s Perseverance and Restoration (Job 42:10-12)
Despite losing everything, Job remained faithful, and God restored him abundantly.
2. HOW TO HOLD ON DURING TOUGH TIMES
Endurance is possible when we apply godly principles in difficult seasons.
a) Stand on God’s Word (Isaiah 40:8)
The promises of God never fail; meditate on His Word daily.
b) Strengthen yourself in prayer (Philippians 4:6-7)
Prayer connects us to God’s peace, even in troubling times.
c) Surround yourself with faith-filled believers (Hebrews 10:25)
Fellowship with others strengthens and encourages us in our walk with God.
d) Refuse to give up (Galatians 6:9)
The reward of your perseverance is just around the corner—keep pressing on.
e) Biblical Example: David Encouraging Himself in the Lord (1 Samuel 30:6)
When David faced distress, he strengthened himself in God instead of giving up.
3. THE REWARDS OF HOLDING ON
God always honours those who remain steadfast in their faith.
a) God will bring restoration (Joel 2:25-26)
Everything you have lost will be restored in God’s perfect timing.
b) Your testimony will bless others (Revelation 12:11)
Your endurance will inspire and strengthen others in their faith.
c) You will grow spiritually (2 Peter 3:18)
Every trial teaches you to trust God more deeply.
d) Eternal rewards await the faithful (2 Timothy 4:7-8)
Those who endure will receive a crown of righteousness from God.
e) Biblical Example: Paul Finishing His Race with Joy (2 Timothy 4:7-8)
Despite suffering, Paul remained faithful and received his reward in heaven.
CONCLUSION
No matter what you are going through, keep holding on! God has not forgotten you, and He is working out His purpose in your life. The storm may be fierce, but it will not last forever. Hold on to God’s promises, stay steadfast in prayer, and trust that in due season, you will see His faithfulness.
If you feel like giving up today, remember: God is with you. Your victory is near. Keep holding on!
