Just remember who the star of the show is…..it’s You

Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Watching the Andy Griffin Show in black and while sitting in my favorite recliner and eating chicken pot pie. What better way to meditate on God’s word and write the results in a Newsletter/Devotion for you that are reading this right now.

Doesn’t it seem to you that the moral way of life gets harder and harder to find inside that talking box from Hollywood we call the TV these days?

Outside of Christian programs (maybe even some of those) you can find more lessons on how to live a good moral life on one episode of the Andy Griffin Show than you can find on a week’s worth of modern TV programs.

Modern TV programs today promote gays, killing, the unknown as zombies, vampires, gays…self-esteem, rebellion no matter what the cost and did I say gays?

Just how does God expect us Christians to live in such a dark and evil time that we live? Paul says in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving. Everything in prayer….I believe thankfulness motivates prayer and prayer in turn motivates thankfulness.

We live in an unthankful society as a whole….I’ve got 25 bucks but, I need a hundred…I’m eating chicken pot pie but, I’d rather have a steak with bake potato. I need a new bigger recliner so my feet don’t hang off…It never ends.

As I wrote the exact description of where I am and what I was doing when I wrote this, I was actually thankful to the Lord for where I was…you know I could be in a hospital struggling for my life…..I could be hungry with nothing to eat…I could be out in this rain, wet and cold. But, instead I’m here in a warm home, eating a good meal…taking medicine for a not so serious illness and praying that all my family…every member make it home safe form church in this storm.

Getting back to the Andy Griffin Show. Otis’s the town drunks gets a letter delivered to the Sheriff’s office and of course Otis is in there sobering up so Otis ask Andy to read him the letter. Seems Otis’s brother who has never been to Mayberry is coming for a visit so, Otis has a problem. He had always told his brother Ralph that he was a deputy sheriff. So, Andy deputizes Otis until his brother leaves.

Andy outfits Otis in a deputy’s suit and cleans Otis up for his brother’s visit. Everything was going as planned. Otis was the man of the hour….impressed his brother. Saturday night Andy, Barney and Otis were at the office and in came Ralph, Otis’s brother drunk and makes his way to a cell by himself and closes the door and as Otis is on the outside of the cell looking in at his drunk brother.

It seems his brother is the town drunk where he lives. Otis begins to lecture his brother and tell him what a big disappointment he was…but, I believe Otis saw himself in reality and what a great lesson that was. If we could watch ourselves on TV all day, any given day, our thoughts, actions toward our friends and family and what they saw. Would it be: whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report;………………….think on these things.
