Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
This sermon explores the concept of faith, its importance in overcoming fear, following God's path, and maintaining a lifelong commitment to our spiritual journey.
Good morning, dear brothers and sisters in Christ. I stand before you today with a heart full of joy and a spirit brimming with anticipation. We gather here, not as strangers, but as a family united under the banner of God's love. Today, we are going to talk about something that is as fundamental to our Christian walk as the air we breathe - our faith.
Opening Scripture Reading – We will be turning our hearts and minds to the book of Hebrews, specifically chapter 11, verse 1. The verse reads, "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see."
How profound, how succinctly the essence of faith is captured in this one verse! It reminds us that faith isn't just about believing in the unseen but also having the confidence in our hope. It is about a trust so deep, a belief so unshakeable, that it can move mountains and calm storms.
The great Charles Spurgeon once said, "Faith goes up the stairs that love has built and looks out the windows which hope has opened." This quote beautifully encapsulates the interconnectedness of faith, hope, and love in our Christian walk. Today, we will be focusing on the first step of those stairs - faith.
Let's take a moment to connect with the heart of our discussion today. We're talking about faith, right? But not just any kind of faith. We're talking about a faith that's fearless. A faith that stands tall in the face of adversity, a faith that doesn't waver when the winds of doubt blow. This is the kind of faith that we, as followers of Christ, are called to cultivate. But how do we do that? How do we foster this kind of faithful fearlessness?
A. The first aspect of this verse that stands out is the idea of confidence. Confidence is a powerful thing, isn't it? It's what allows us to stand tall, to face our fears, to step out of our comfort zones. But this isn't just any kind of confidence. This is a confidence that is anchored in hope. And not just any hope, but a hope that is rooted in the promises of God.
B. The second aspect of this verse that stands out is the idea of assurance. Assurance is a certainty, a guarantee. It's knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt that something is true. But this isn't just any kind of assurance. This is an assurance about what we do not see.
C. The third aspect of this verse that stands out is the idea of hope. Hope is a powerful thing, isn't it? It's what keeps us going, it's what gives us strength, it's what fills our hearts with joy. But this isn't just any kind of hope. This is a hope that is rooted in the promises of God.
D. The fourth and final aspect of this verse that stands out is the idea of the unseen. The unseen is a mysterious thing, isn't it? It's what we can't see, it's what we can't touch, it's what we can't understand. But this isn't just any kind of unseen. This is an unseen that is revealed to us through faith.
