Heavenly Joy through the Blood of Jesus
Revelation7:9-10, 14
Our text comes from the well-known vision of the great multitude in heavenly glory, which no man could number. While in the spirit on the Lord’s day, John saw the multitude standing before the throne of God and of the Lamb, clothed with long white robes and with palm branches in their hands; and they sang with a loud voice, “Salvation to our God which sits upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.” And all the angels answered this song by falling down on their faces before the throne to worship God and to offer eternal praise and glory to Him. If the angels praise Him in heavenly angels who do not have the needs that we have, why do we not give him some praise this morning for not only for what he has done but what He is doing in our life right now. For we sing the song every now and then that says “the Lord is blessing me right now, right now, right now, so why can’t we praise the Lord, right now, right now, right now.
Back to our text, after this one of the elders pointing to the multitude and the clothing that distinguished them, “what are these which are arrayed in white robes? And whence came they (Revelation 7:13) John replied “Sir, thou knows” (verse 14) Then the elder said these are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore, are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in His temple. (Verse 14-15)
Church there should be something that distinguishes the church from the world; can I get a witness this morning? How many agree that we ought to stand out in the world, because we are in the world but not of the world, someone ought to ask “who are they?
The reply to John by elder lets us know that not only in this world of sin and strife is the blood of Jesus the one hope of the sinner, but also in heaven, when every enemy has been subdued, the precious blood of Jesus will be recognized forever as the ground of our salvation. Other words, like the songwriter, what can wash away my sins, nothing but the blood of Jesus, what can make me whole again, nothing but the blood of Jesus, of precious is that flow, that makes me whiter than snow, no other fount I know, nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Church when we began to clearly realize that without the shedding of blood there is not life, and without the blood of Jesus we are spiritually without hope we come to understand what Peter meant in 1 Peter 1:2 when he talks about the sprinkling of the blood and the joys of heaven, and that a true intimate connection with the blood on earth will enable us while still on earth to share the joy and glory of heaven, can I get a witness. You see, it is the shed blood of Jesus the perfect Lamb of God that connects us to God the Father; we reap the benefit of joy that flows like a river from heaven. Are you with me this morning church, somebody ought to be able to shout, joys are flowing like a river.
Joy in heaven through the blood is possible because the blood first bestows the right to a place in heaven:
The bible tells us to ‘behold the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world” by shedding His blood, Jesus really took our punishment of sin. He gave Himself up to death in our place. He gave His life as a “ransom for many: (Matthew 20:28). The punishment has been borne, and our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ’s blood has really been shed as a ransom and appears before the throne of God in Heaven. Therefore, somebody say, therefore, the righteousness of God declares that we the sinners surety, for Jesus has fulfilled all the requirements of the law regarding both the punishment and obedience, and God pronounces those us who believes in Jesus to righteous. Yes church, God grace bestows on us the right to heaven. The blood of the Lamb is the evidence of this right.
Not only does the blood give us a right to heaven, but it also bestows the fitness for heaven. How many know that it is of little use for us to have a right to anything unless we are equipped to enjoy it. What pleasure would it be for us to have a driver license then for some reason or other cannot drive. Not make how expense a gift may be it is of little use if the inner disposition necessary to enjoy it is lacking. Other words, if someone gave me a 5,000 dollar watch but I could not see to tell time, or lacked arms to wear it I still could not enjoy the gift. Therefore for the Lord to bestow the right to heaven on those who are not at the same time prepared for it would give them no pleasure, but would be in conflict with the perfection of all God’s work. So then the power of the blood of Jesus not only sets open the door of heaven for the sinner, but it also operates on them in such a divine way, that as he or she enters heavens, it will appear that they and the blessedness of heaven have been rally fitted for each other. That is what Charles Wesley was talking about, when he penned the words, to the song, a charge to keep I have, and a God to glorify, ever dying souls to save and fitted it for the sky. Glory hallelujah.
