Summary: The source of Joshua’s faith is his alignment to God’s will or his knowledge of God’s plan. Joshua when he knew from God that defeating the 5 kings was God’s will, he went to the extent of stopping the sun in order to carry out God's plan.

And the LORD said to Joshua, “Do not fear them, for I have delivered them into your hand; not a man of them shall stand before you.” Joshua 10:8

Then Joshua spoke to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel: Sun, stand still over Gibeon; And Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.” So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the people had revenge upon their enemies. Joshua 10:12-13

On what basis did Joshua boldly declare “Sun, stand still over Gibeon; And Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon”. The source of Joshua’s faith is his alignment to God’s will or his knowledge of God’s plan. Joshua when he knew from God that defeating the 5 kings was God’s will, he went to the extent of stopping the sun in order to carry out God's plan. He not only stopped the sun's movement, but also gave a timeline for when it had to restart. This kind of miracle has never been heard or seen before, in which God listened to man and used His unfathomable power to stop a planet. Knowing God’s will in a particular situation is the source of faith. If Joshua would have asked for angelic army at this moment, God would have sent one. God was bound by His word, and Joshua used his faith to unlock or unleash God’s incredible power.

He understood that doing things according to God’s will is backed by God’s enormous power, which is capable of stopping the sun also. Joshua went to the extreme of stopping the sun (It was God who actually stopped the sun). According to science, it was actually the earth and moon’s movements that were stopped. Solar system’s rotation cycle was disturbed and altered by Joshua’s faith. Joshua’s faith had an impact on every planet in the solar system. To move or rotate a planet, at least 100 nuclear bombs equivalent power would be required.

Joshua’s request was gigantic in nature. But God can never say no because it is God’s will. Stopping and restarting the movement of a planet required billions of horsepower. It is more simpler or easier for God to destroy five kings than to stop the rotation of the earth or sun. Stopping the rotation of the sun (or the earth) was a gigantic thing, and the universe was affected by it. God went to the extent of showing that, He is willing to back humanity with enormous or vast power capable of stopping planetary motion in order to carry out His plan.

Good that Joshua did not say, meteors and stars fall on 5 kings, God would have done it. While destroying the 5 kings, God demonstrated his absolute power. The miracle for fulfilling God’s plan (stopping the sun) was greater that God’s plan (destroying the 5 kings). Stopping the sun was a far greater miracle than destroying 5 kings. We have to understand that - God while fulfilling his plans, He gives glimpses of His tremendous, unfathomable power.

Planetary motion was disturbed by Joshua’s faith. When Joshua stopped the sun, the entire solar system’s rotational cycle was disturbed. God wanted to show that in order to fulfil His plan, His unfathomable power is available. However, this enormous power is available only when we unlock with our faith. Joshua’s faith unlocked and enabled him to tap into this enormous power. For God, it may be simpler to destroy 5 kings rather than to stop a planet's motion. Joshua understood that God is bound by his(God’s) word, so he used his faith to draw God’s enormous power.

Since it was God's will to destroy five kings, God was bound by Joshua's faith. God performed the miracle (stopping the sun) exactly as the way Joshua had said through faith. Joshua declared it, God was bound to the faith of Joshua since it is God’s will. When we know it is God's will, we are backed by God's immense power, which can be unlocked and accessed by faith. When we know it is God's will, we can use faith to bind God to perform the miracle in our desired way. Joshua wanted by stopping the sun, and he got it that way.

When we know a plan or purpose is God’s will, what are you doing ? Are you staying silent or doing something to achieve it? Don’t stay silent, instead, use your faith to draw God’s unfathomable power to carry out His plan. Start declaring by faith and use God’s great power. Faith opens the door for God’s unfathomable power to manifest in our ordinary lives. It is not the situation that is tough, but it is God’s power, that it is so great that the situation cannot withstand it.
