Men of Honon
One day the angels came again to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan the Accuser came with them. 2 “Where have you come from?” the LORD asked Satan. And Satan answered the LORD, “I have been going back and forth across the earth, watching everything that’s going on.” 3 Then the LORD asked Satan, “Have you noticed my servant Job? He is the finest man in all the earth--a man of complete integrity. He fears God and will have nothing to do with evil. And he has maintained his integrity, even though you persuaded me to harm him without cause.” Job 2:1-3 (NLT)
1. Most men and women have bought into the world’s definition of a man (or) woman.
2. The end of the search for the Marlboro man or the Super model is FRUSTRATION and confusion.
3. It certainly should matter to me what others think about me, to a point. (ILLUS. $1.5 million loan on word)
4. I should be much more concerned about GOD’S estimate of my life.
5. In the Bible there are only a few men to whom God gives testimony of great approval.
Men like: Jesus, Noah, Moses, Abraham, David and a man by the name of JOB.
• Interestingly, God’s testimony concerning Job wasn’t to a credit agency but directly to SATAN himself.
• God asked Satan, “Have you noticed (Lit. set your HEART on) my servant Job?”
In order to have His testimony I must imitate several aspects of Job’s character.
1- I Should be a Man of HONOR
1- “Finest”, “Perfect” (KJV) Heb. Mt tam tawm which means, COMPLETE or WHOLE.
2- It can not mean SINLESS, for all have SINNED.
As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: Rom 3:10 (KJV)
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Rom. 3:23 (NLT)
3- It means to be MATURE, grown up, complete.
4- God’s standard for man is NEVER more than he can reach, though it may only be reached in Christ.
2- My Life Should be Characterized by UPRIGHT -ness
1- “Complete integrity” Heb. rvy yashar yaw-shawr’ which means level, CORRECT, fitting.
2- Life is made up of decisions I make and the consequences that FOLLOW.
3- I can be upright by making the right decisions and following them with ACTIONS.
3- My Life should Demonstrate my FEAR of God
1- “Fear” Heb. ary yare’ yaw-ray’ which means, to fear or reverence. (ILLUS Positive & Negative)
Fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge. Only fools despise wisdom and discipline. Prov 1:7
Fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in understanding. Prov 9:10
2- Knowledge is KNOW how, WISDOM is to know when and where. (People can see it)
3- A healthy fear of God will help you make a whole lot of DECISIONS.
4- My Life Can be Characterized by a Rejection of EVIL
1- “Evil” Heb. er ra` rah wicked, malignant, bad.
2- Refusing to do that which offends God is an act of WORSHIP!
3- Refusing to do that which offends God is also an act of SELF - preservation!
5- I Can be a Man of Integrity Even Under PRESSURE.
1- “Maintained” Heb. qzx chazaq khaw-zak’= hold fast, display strength, FIRM, steadfast, strong.
2- Job stood up and tore his robe in grief. Then he shaved his head and fell to the ground before God. 21 He said, “I came naked from my mother’s womb, and I will be stripped of everything when I die. The LORD gave me everything I had, and the LORD has taken it away. Praise the name of the LORD!” 22 In all of this, Job did not sin by blaming God. Job 1:20-22
3- I am confident because of WHO my GOD is.
4- I can be counted on because I have made my mind up to be FAITHFUL.
See yourself as a person of honor then begin to act like it.
