Jesus, The Giant Slayer

TEXT: 1 Samuel 17: 4, 8-9 (NLT)

"Then Goliath, a Philistine champion from Gath, came out of the Philistine ranks to face the forces of Israel. He was over nine feet tall! Goliath stood and shouted a taunt across to the Israelites. “Why are you all coming out to fight?” he called. “I am the Philistine champion, but you are only the servants of Saul. Choose one man to come down here and fight me! If he kills me, then we will be your slaves. But if I kill him, you will be our slaves!"

GOLIATH, THE GIANT

Goliath, the giant of Philistine; tormented the nation of Israel for a long time. They were terrified of him. He challenged them to raise a champion to fight against him, but no soldier in Israel volunteered. He defied the nation, cursed God and mocked them. He taunted them forty days without any response until a shepherd boy took up the challenge and defeated the giant with only a sling and stone. If Goliath had defeated David, the Israelites would have been slaves to the Philistines, but God used David to deliver his people from reproach and shame.

TROUBLESOME GIANTS

Who and what is the giant mocking and taunting you? Who and what is that Goliath that creates fear and terror in your heart? Is the giant of barrenness taunting you? Is abject poverty mocking you? Is sickness the Goliath defying God in your life? Is it failure and delays? Is it fear or demonic oppression?

Hannah was mocked for several years by the giant of barrenness but it took only Samuel to silence her mockers. The God that remembered Hannah will remember you in the name of Jesus. The giant of poverty was a reproach in the life of the wife of one of the sons of the prophets. It took just a pot of oil to turn her life around and permanently put an end to the debt and lack in her family (2 Kings 4:1-7). God will arise for your sake and put an end to poverty permanently in your life in Jesus name. The woman with the issue of blood suffered in the hands of the giant of infirmity. It took only a touch of the hem of Jesus for the terrible reproach of sickness to end in her life. The Lord will touch you today and heal you in the name of Jesus.

THE GREATEST GIANT AND THE GIANT SLAYER

The greatest giant facing man is sin. It stands like the wall of Jericho between man and redemption. Sin is the champion Satan is using to enslave man. You don't need to remain a slave to sin, God has raised a champion that defeated Satan more than 2,000 years ago. Jesus, the giant slayer. He slew the giant of sin at the cross of calvary and delivered man from the tyranny of sin and Satan. Col 2:15 says: "In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross." David defeated Goliath as the champion of Israel, Jesus defeated Satan as the champion of man. You only need to accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour and begin to enjoy the benefits of the victory of Jesus.

Jesus is the greatest giant slayer and his name is above every other name. Declare your victory today in the name of the giant slayer.

PRAYER:

Lord, you are my champion. Your name is above all other names. I declare my victory over every giant reigning in my life in the name of Jesus.

CONFESSION:

Greater is he that is in me than he that is the world. I am a conqueror of giants.
