Summary: Jesus brings us comfort
John 14:1-6
Verse 1-“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.
They had a lot to be troubled about, Jesus had just told them about what was going to happen to Him, and that someone was going to betray Him and Peter was going to deny knowing Him.
Their hearts are heavy with questions and grief, yet even in this lowly hour of their life Jesus gives them hope and comfort.
Verse 2-In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
Jesus is reminding them that there is something beyond the hours that lay ahead of them.
Jesus dying on the cross, is His way of preparing a place for them in Heaven, we could not have access to God without this supreme sacrifice!!
Verse 3-And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.
The great comfort that any believer can find in God’s word is this….There is a place prepared and He is coming to get us one day!!!
If that don’t comfort you then nothing will!
Verse 4-6-And where I go you know, and the way you know.”
Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
A lot of people are trying to get to heaven their own way, but Jesus said, “I am the way!”
A lot of people say, “There is no truth!” Jesus says, “I am the truth!”
You hear people say, “Nothing is in black and white!” But here it is in black and white (Bible) Jesus saying, “I am the truth!”
You hear people say, “It’s my life, I’ll live it the way I want!” But the truth is there is no life outside of the one that is lived for Christ.
Jesus says, I am the way!” That means He wants us to follow Him!
He is saying, “You want to get to God, then follow Me!”
He is saying, “You want to get to Heaven, then follow Me!”
He is saying, “You want your life to amount to something, then follow Me!”
He is saying, “You want to really make difference in this world, then follow Me!”
If you want to go somewhere…1-You have to a destination
2-You have to know how to get there!
If not you will aimless wonder around! (The mall we could see from the highway, but could not find the right exit to get there)
Jesus is giving us a destination and the instruction’s how to get there! I am the way!!!
