Jesus Stands Between 1Timothy 2:1-7

1. In the Midst of great Turmoil, Paul in this letter. Paul refers to Prayer as a Key to overcoming.

• The notorious Roman emperor Nero (A.D. 54-68) was in power when Paul wrote these words.

• Paul shares with us and those folks in Rome to Pray for even folks like Nero 21I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone-- 2for kings and all those in authority

• Paul maybe expressing Prayer is the go Between a horded and peaceful life If you Pray: vs 2 we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness

• If We Pray : 3This is good, and pleases God our Savior

2. Prayer is key to overcoming but Paul also states there is something else important to Our God

• 2:4 God wants all men to be saved. God desires the salvation of all people.

• Another want of God is that all, “ come to a knowledge of the truth”.

• The knowledge of truth He speaks of perhaps is 5For there is one God

3. The Truth about God is

• God is the sovereign, self-existent Creator of the universe (Isaiah 42:5 5 Thus says God, the Lord, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and what comes from it, who gives breath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk in it:

• God is spirit (John 4:24 . 24God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."),

• God is eternal (Psalm 90:2), 2Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

• God is personal (Deuteronomy 34:10). 10Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face,

• God possesses all knowledge (Isaiah 46:10) and all power (Matthew 19:26),

• God is present in all places (Psalm 139:7–10), and is unchanging (James 1:17)

4. Paul has been given us a Knowledge of a mediator One who goes between or stnda between

• The writer states, “ one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6who gave himself as a ransom for all men--the testimony given in its proper time. 7And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle--I am telling the truth, I am not lying--and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles.

• What is a mediator? A mediator is a person who stands between two people inorder to help resolve issues

• The Mediator is duty-bound to protect the interests of the weaker party

• Paul explains our Mediator is Jesus Christ or God in flesh

5. Jesus Our Mediator is Prophet Priest and King

• Jesus is Prophet in the sense of one who One who spoke Gods word to Gods people.

• People referred to Jesus as Prophet Luke said, “16 Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has arisen among us!” and “God has visited his people!” Jesus had told the dead boy in coffin to arise in the story of the widow of Nain.

• Prophets predicted future events Jesus did as well. He told the disciples I will be scourged, I will suffer, I will die , And I will arise, He predicted one would betray Him Judas Iscariot the one who sips after me, He predicted Peter would deny Him 3 times before the cock crows.

• Many Prophets performed miracles and so does Jesus

6. Jesus as Mediator He is considered the Priest

• We know Old Testament priests served as mediators between the people and God. It was the priests who offered sacrifices on behalf of the people.

• Jesus is not just Priest, but High Priest Hebrews 4:14–16 says, “Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” With Jesus as our High Priest, we can go before God boldly, knowing that Jesus has true compassion on us and that, through Him, we will experience the grace and mercy of God.

7. Jesus is also Our King

• The angel Gabriel told Mary that Jesus “will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end” (Luke 1:32–33).
