Summary: There are seven sayings from the cross we will cover them all.

JESUS SPEAKS FROM THE CROSS FIRST TIME

Luke 23:24 And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required.

His first word was Father Forgive Them. This was to all who stood by the cross and all who would be after his death. As they stood in amazement these words were spoken surely this was the Son of God.

(1) His willingness to for give sin.

Psalms 86: 86:5 For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.

Piercing his hands and feet

Psalms 22:16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.

He was preached forgiveness

Punishment and cruelty he suffered

The crown of thorns on his head ---still praying forgive them

(2) He wanted to forgive sins

Luke :9 And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.

19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

The law based forgiveness on forgiving

Matthew 6:14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

6:15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

The blood forgives all our sins

The believer forgives any sins against him are her

(3) He waits to forgive sin

Hebrews 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high:

He loved sinners not sin

He longs for you to be saved

He leads you to seek forgiveness’

(4) The price to pay if not forgiven

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Perish with no mercy

Punished for ever

Don’t put off one time to many

(5) The wisdom of being forgiven

1st John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Be smart be saved

Put your sins under the blood

It’s a sure thing we will meet the Lord

(6) The weight of our sins upon him

Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

The heaviness of a lost world

The embarrassment and humiliation

The heckling mocking laughing jeering crowd

(7) Welcome of forgiveness

Colossians 1:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

Romans 4:7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.

4:8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

Removes guilt and fear of judgement

Restores relationship with God

Refreshes the soul and spirit
