INTRODUCTION:
The name “Jesus” means Saviour, signifying His divine assignment to rescue humanity from sin, bondage, and eternal death. From the foundation of the world, God purposed redemption for man, and in the fullness of time, He manifested that plan through His Son, Jesus Christ.
Humanity was lost, broken, and condemned through the sin of Adam, but through Christ, salvation, forgiveness, and restoration became possible. The cross is the ultimate symbol of God’s love where mercy triumphed over judgement and grace was freely given to all who believe.
In a world filled with pain, uncertainty, and moral decay, Jesus remains the only true hope of salvation. He is not one of many ways, He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Through Him, we find reconciliation with God and victory over sin and Satan.
1. THE NEED FOR A SAVIOUR
Every human being is born with a sinful nature that separates us from God. Without a Saviour, mankind is doomed to spiritual death.
a) The Reality of Sin — Romans 3:23: All have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. Sin brings separation from God and produces death.
b) The Consequence of Sin — Romans 6:23: The wages of sin is death, both physical and eternal, but Jesus came to pay the price for our redemption.
c) The Helplessness of Man — Jeremiah 13:23: No one can save himself or cleanse his own heart without divine help.
d) The Love of God Revealed — John 3:16: God’s love compelled Him to send His only Son so that no one would perish but have everlasting life.
Biblical Example: The thief on the cross recognised his sin and cried out to Jesus for mercy, and he received instant salvation (Luke 23:42-43).
2. JESUS – THE ONLY WAY TO SALVATION
Salvation is not found in religion, good works, or moral efforts. It is only through Jesus Christ that man can be reconciled to God.
a) The Uniqueness of Christ — Acts 4:12: There is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.
b) The Power of His Blood — Hebrews 9:12: Jesus entered once into the holy place with His own blood to obtain eternal redemption for us.
c) The Grace of Salvation — Ephesians 2:8-9. We are saved by grace through faith, not by works, lest any man should boast.
d) The Simplicity of Faith — Romans 10:9-10. Anyone who believes in their heart and confesses with their mouth that Jesus is Lord shall be saved.
Biblical Example: The jailer in Philippi asked Paul and Silas, “What must I do to be saved?” and they replied, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:30-31).
3. THE BLESSINGS OF SALVATION IN CHRIST
When we receive Jesus as Saviour, we experience both spiritual and physical transformation.
a) Forgiveness of Sins — 1 John 1:9. Through Christ, all sins are forgiven, and guilt is erased by His mercy.
b) Newness of Life — 2 Corinthians 5:17. Salvation produces a new creature; the old life of sin passes away, and a new life begins.
c) Access to God — Hebrews 4:16. We now have boldness to approach God’s throne of grace without fear.
d) Eternal Life — John 10:28. Jesus gives eternal life to all who believe, and no one can pluck them out of His hand.
Biblical Example: Zacchaeus received salvation and his life changed completely; he became generous, just, and righteous (Luke 19:8-9).
4. OUR RESPONSE TO JESUS OUR SAVIOUR
Salvation is a gift, but it requires our active response: faith, repentance, and daily obedience.
a) Repentance from Sin — Acts 3:19. Turning from sin is the first step to walking with the Saviour.
b) Faith in His Finished Work — Romans 5:1. We must rest our confidence in what Christ has done, not in human effort.
c) Obedience to His Word — John 14:15: Love for Jesus is demonstrated through obedience to His commandments.
d) Witnessing to Others — Mark 16:15: Everyone saved by grace has the responsibility to tell others about Jesus the Saviour.
Biblical Example: The Samaritan woman met Jesus, believed in Him, and went into the city to share her testimony, bringing many to Christ (John 4:28-30, 39).
CONCLUSION:
Jesus is not just a historical figure; He is the living Saviour of the world. His mission was not to condemn, but to redeem. Salvation through Him is the greatest miracle any man can receive; it brings peace, joy, and eternal hope.
