INTRODUCTION:
The declaration that “Jesus is Lord” is one of the most powerful confessions of faith in Christianity. It is not a religious slogan but a spiritual truth that establishes Christ’s absolute authority over heaven, earth, and all that exists. To call Jesus “Lord” means He is the Master, Ruler, and King of our lives.
In a world where men boast in achievements, titles, and power, the Lordship of Jesus stands unrivalled. Every power bows to His name; every tongue must confess His dominion. When a believer truly recognises Jesus as Lord, submission, obedience, and worship flow naturally.
This message reminds us that acknowledging Jesus as Lord is not just about confession but also about living in full surrender and obedience to His authority. When Jesus is truly Lord over your life, no power of darkness can prevail against you.
1. JESUS IS LORD OVER ALL CREATION
Christ’s Lordship is not limited by time, space, or realm. His authority covers heaven, earth, and beneath the earth.
a) Lord of Heaven — Colossians 1:16. All things in heaven: angels, powers, and authorities were created by Him and for Him. He reigns over all heavenly hosts.
b) Lord of the Earth — Psalm 24:1. The earth belongs to the Lord. Every nation, government, and person exists under His sovereign rule.
c) Lord over the Underworld — Philippians 2:10. Even in hell and among demonic forces, His authority is acknowledged. No power can resist the name of Jesus.
d) Lord over Time and Eternity — Revelation 1:8. Jesus is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. His dominion has no end.
Biblical Example: In Mark 4:39, Jesus demonstrated His Lordship over nature by rebuking the storm, and the wind and sea obeyed Him.
2. JESUS IS LORD OVER SALVATION AND REDEMPTION
The salvation of man is possible only through the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
a) The Only Way to Salvation — John 14:6. Jesus alone is the way to the Father. There is no salvation in any other name.
b) The Price of Redemption — 1 Peter 1:18-19. Our redemption was purchased with the precious blood of Christ. His death and resurrection established His Lordship over sin and death.
c) The Confession of Lordship — Romans 10:9-10. Salvation becomes personal when you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead.
d) The Assurance of Eternal Life — John 10:28. Jesus, as Lord, guarantees eternal security for those who belong to Him.
Biblical Example: The thief on the cross recognised Jesus as Lord and received eternal life that same day (Luke 23:42-43).
3. JESUS IS LORD OVER THE CHURCH
The Church exists because of Christ, and He alone is its Head and foundation.
a) The Head of the Body — Colossians 1:18. Jesus governs the Church; no man can usurp His authority.
b) The Builder of the Church — Matthew 16:18. He declared, “I will build my Church,” meaning no power of hell can prevail against it.
c) The Shepherd of the Flock — John 10:11. As the Good Shepherd, He leads, protects, and feeds His sheep.
d) The Bridegroom of the Church — Ephesians 5:25-27. Christ loves the Church deeply and is preparing her as a glorious bride for His coming.
Biblical Example: In Revelation 1:12-20, John saw Jesus walking among the seven golden candlesticks, symbolising His Lordship and active presence in the Church.
4. JESUS IS LORD IN THE LIFE OF THE BELIEVER
Recognising Jesus as Lord must reflect in our daily living, obedience, and service.
a) Lord over Our Hearts — Proverbs 3:5-6. True submission begins when we trust His will and lean not on our understanding.
b) Lord over Our Words — Colossians 4:6. Every word we speak must honour Him who is Lord over our tongue and witness.
c) Lord over Our Actions — Matthew 7:24-25. Obedience to His teachings proves that He truly reigns in our lives.
d) Lord over Our Future — Jeremiah 29:11. When Jesus directs your steps, your destiny becomes secure and fruitful.
Biblical Example: Saul of Tarsus surrendered to the Lordship of Jesus on the road to Damascus and became Paul, the Apostle of Christ (Acts 9:3-6).
CONCLUSION:
To call Jesus Lord is to recognise His ownership and your total dependence on Him. It means you have no life outside His will and no purpose apart from His kingdom. The Lordship of Jesus must be evident in how we think, speak, live, and serve.
