Jesus our Champion

Matthew 28:1-7 (NKJV) 1 Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. 2 And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. 3 His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. 4 And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men. 5 But the angel answered and said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. 7 And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you."

Wow! Wouldn’t you have liked to have been there that Easter morning?

The Resurrection of our Lord Jesus meant new life for every believer.

It meant that Death had been defeated:

1 Corinthians 15:51-58 (NKJV)

51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed--

52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: "Death is swallowed up in victory."

55 "O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?"

56 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.

57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

Jesus our Champion has defeated death for us.

As we look at that Resurrection day and all that happened, we can see that we as Christian have received many blessing from our Lord.

Let’s look at a few of them today.

1. Because of the Resurrection: Jesus our Champion has Pardon us of our sin. We are now Forgiveness of sin.

We are now pardon by Almighty God.

Pardon means (a) the act of excusing a mistake or offence. (b)The formal act of liberating someone. (c) A Warrant granting release from punishment for an offense.

Ephesians 1:7 (NKJV) 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace

Psalms 86:5 (NKJV) 5 For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, And abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You.

Isaiah 43:25 (NKJV) 25 "I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; And I will not remember your sins.

2. Because of the Resurrection: WE now have peace with God.

Romans 5:1 (NKJV) 1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

John 14:27 (NKJV) 27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

John 20:19 (NKJV) 19 Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, "Peace be with you."

3. Because of the Resurrection: We are FREE FROM SIN.

Romans 6:14 (NKJV) 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

Romans 6:18 (NKJV) 18 And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.

4. Because of the Resurrection: we now have Power

Ephesians 1:19-20 (NKJV) 19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power 20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,

Romans 8:11 (NKJV) 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

5. Because of the Resurrection: We now have his Awesome presence
