Summary: On my mother’s side my work seem to end, But on my Father’s side I will be the judge of all man kind.
Read John 3:16-21
This is the third sermon on “Jesus is the reason for the season”. We have learned how Jesus was before the beginning of time. He was there when the earth was created. He was there in the Garden of Eden. He was there when Adam, the first person ever to walk on the earth, was created. When Abraham was, Jesus said, “I Am”. When Isaac was born Jesus existed. When Jacob was born Jesus was there. When Saul was appointed as the first king of Israel Jesus was in their presence. When David was crowned king Jesus gave His approval. When Solomon was granted his wisdom Jesus’ providence was in the world. And as the world move through history Jesus has always been present. Jesus is the reason for the season!
Jesus allowed Himself to be born into the family of man. He came to the poor and the rich came to Him. His birth to some gave hope. His birth to some gave heart ache. He was born a Jew and He was preached among the Gentiles. At two years old wise men came with gifts. At two years old His birth cause great concern and Herod gave the order for all male children two years old and under to be put to death. At twelve Jesus astonished the religious teachers at His words. Jesus’ wisdom is unsurpassable. He is the only begotten of the Father. Jesus is the reason for the season!
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem an angel of the Lord told Joseph to take Mary and the baby Jesus and flee to Egypt and stay there until it was safe to come back to Judea. After Herod was dead Joseph brought them back to Nazareth and there Jesus grew into an adult. He worked with His hands as a carpenter and He began to preach about the age of thirty. He preached for about three years. Jesus never had a home of His own while on the earth yet He even changed the way we count and by divide time. He was crucified and died and He arose from the grave by the power of all mighty God. We celebrate His birth at this time of year but we glorify His resurrection. You see, Jesus is the reason for the season!
When Jesus was asked, “Where did you come from?” He could answer:
On my mother’s side I was born in a stable in Bethlehem,
But on my Father’s I have always been.
On my mother’s side I am the oldest of my brothers and sisters,
But on my Father’s side I am the only begotten.
On my mother’s side I was raised in a little town called Nazareth,
But on my Father’s side I am from the very streets of Heaven.
On my mother’s side I was a preacher and a carpenter,
But on my Father’s side I am a King and a Ruler.
On my mother’s side it was said I was a mental case,
But on my Father’s side it was said I was full of wisdom, grace and truth.
On my mother’s side it was said I had a demon,
But on my Father’s side I was filled with the Spirit of God.
On my mother’s side my life was short,
But on my Father’s side I am eternal.
On my mother’s side I was crucified,
But on my Father’s side I live forever.
On my mother’s side my ministry seemed to end,
But on my Father’s side I am still proclaimed though out the world.
On my mother’s side I did a good work,
But on my Father’s side I make intercession between man and God.
On my mother’s side my work seem to end,
But on my Father’s side I will be the judge of all man kind.
On my mother’s side who will declare my generation,
But on my Father’s side, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.”
On my mother’s side I was the son of Joseph and Mary,
But on my Father’s side I am the reason for the season!
Read John 3:16-21
Conclusion:
God did send Jesus into the world to save the world. Jesus did not come to threaten mankind but to save mankind. He offered Himself through and by the direction of the Father for the sins of man, that man might have eternal life. That eternal life was in the plan of God from the beginning. God will not force anyone to worship Him. He wants a people to worship Him because they want to not because they have to. In Jesus there is life for He is the light of the world. Will you come believing, repenting, confessing and be baptized into Christ Jesus and you can really know that Jesus is the reason for the season!
