VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. JESUS from another tribe

"For the One of Whom these things are said belonged [not to the priestly line but] to another tribe,"

JESUS came from Judah's tribe. Judah means "celebrated" or "praise", they celebrated the Messiah's Presence into their tribe.

Genesis 49:8 (Amplified Bible)

49:8 Judah, you are the one whom your brothers shall praise; your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; your father’s sons shall bow down to you.

B. No member of that tribe officiated at the altar

"no member of which has officiated at the altar."

Hebrews 7:14 (Amplified Bible)

7:14 For it is obvious that our Lord sprang from the tribe of Judah, and Moses mentioned nothing about priests in connection with that tribe.

Comparison of Aaron, the high priest from tribe of Levi and JESUS, the Great High Priest from tribe of Judah:

1. Title: Aaron was high priest, but JESUS is called "Great High Priest"

Hebrews 4:14 (Amplified Bible)

4:14 Inasmuch then as we have a great High Priest Who has [already] ascended and passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession [of faith in Him].

2. Sonship: JESUS is the Son of GOD, no high priest called even "a son"

Mark 9:7 (The Message)

9:7 Just then a light-radiant cloud enveloped them, and from deep in the cloud, a voice: "This is my Son, marked by my love. Listen to him."

Mark 9:7 (Amplified Bible)

9:7 And a cloud threw a shadow upon them, and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is My Son, the [most dearworthy] Beloved One. Be constantly listening to and obeying Him!

3. Perfect Sympathy of JESUS: Aaron sinned the first commandment, but JESUS never sinned.

Exodus 32:35 (Amplified Bible)

32:35 And the Lord sent a plague upon the people because they made the calf which Aaron fashioned for them.

Hebrews 4:15 (Amplified Bible)

4:15 For we do not have a High Priest Who is unable to understand and sympathize and have a shared feeling with our weaknesses and infirmities and liability to the assaults of temptation, but One Who has been tempted in every respect as we are, yet without sinning.

4. Sinlessness of JESUS: All high priest are only sinful men but even Judas acknowledged JESUS as sinless.

Hebrews 7:26 (Amplified Bible)

7:26 [Here is] the High Priest [perfectly adapted] to our needs, as was fitting—holy, blameless, unstained by sin, separated from sinners, and exalted higher than the heavens.

Matthew 27:3-4 (Amplified Bible)

27:3 When Judas, His betrayer, saw that [Jesus] was condemned, [Judas was afflicted in mind and troubled for his former folly; and] with remorse [with little more than a selfish dread of the consequences] he brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders,

27:4 Saying, I have sinned in betraying innocent blood. They replied, What is that to us? See to that yourself.

5. JESUS's Kingship: JESUS is both King and Priest, a combination not permitted to any king of Israel or Judah

Hebrews 7:1 (Amplified Bible)

7:1 FOR THIS Melchizedek, king of Salem [and] priest of the Most High God, met Abraham as he returned from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him,

Numbers 16:40 (Amplified Bible)

16:40 To be a memorial [a warning forever] to the Israelites, so that no outsider, that is, no one not of the descendants of Aaron, should come near to offer incense before the Lord, lest he become as Korah and as his company, as the Lord said to Eleazar through Moses.

Numbers 18:7 (Amplified Bible)

18:7 Therefore you and your sons with you shall attend to your priesthood for everything of the altar [of burnt offering and the altar of incense] and [of the Holy of Holies] within the veil, and you shall serve. I give you your priesthood as a service of gift. And the stranger [anyone other than Moses or your sons, Aaron] who comes near shall be put to death.
