JESUS’ CROSS-Driven CONCERNS-VI

OR--CONCERNS From The CROSS
We can but should never be--oblivious to the obvious.
The Church & Christians can be oblivious to the obvious... that while we bicker about ‘this that or the other thing,’ that there are literally millions of people who do not know Jesus!
We can be so focused on extraneous ‘pressing’ matters that we totally miss the pressing matters!
Likewise, we can be so caught up in the sorrow, & gruesome brutality of the Crucifixion of Christ, that we miss the Cross-work of Christ!
Jesus’ 7 Words From the Cross:
“Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”—Luke 23:34
“Today you will be with me in paradise.”—Luke 23:43
“Behold your son...”: “behold your mother.”—Jn. 19:26-27
“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”—Mat. 27:45; Mk. 15:33-34
“I thirst”—Jn. 19:28-29
“It is finished”—Jn. 19:30
“Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”— Lk. 23:44; Mat. 27:50; Mk. 15:36-38
Need:
To recognize those things which are of greatest significance to our lives & the lives of others.

1. Your FORGIVENESS(Lk. 23:34)
2. Your DESTINY/Future/Eternity(Lk. 23:43)
3. Your CARE & OBLIGATION(Jn. 19:26-27)
4. Your SEPARATION/Trust(Mat. 27:46; Mk. 15:34)
5. Your PREPARATION(Jn. 19:28)

Your COMPLETION (Jn. 19:30a)
Explanation:(Jn. 19:30a)Finish/End/Finality
Jn. 19:30a—“So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.
?What is “it”?:
Every aspect of the entire reason for Jesus’ coming to this earth...the reason for God’s visitation has been accomplished in the life of Christ!
Sin had & has been dealt with once, for all, for all time, decisively. Propitiation for sin—God has been completely satisfied—has been permanently met!
Jesus has Taken on human flesh, Humbled Himself, Remained sinless, Given God the glory, Revealed His Father’s will, Overcome the devil, Saved the elect, Secured the Christian’s future, Gifted the faithful, Empowered the called, Enabled the weak, Encouraged the faint of heart, etc.
“Finished”—telew—Perfect Passive Indicative 3rd Sing.—1) To bring to a close, to finish, to end—1a) Passed, finished; 2) To perform, execute, complete, fulfill, (so that the thing done corresponds to what has been said, the order, command etc.)—2a) With special reference to the subject matter, to carry out the contents of a command, 2b) With reference also to the form, to do just as commanded, & generally involving the notion of time, to perform the last act which completes a process, to accomplish, fulfill; 3) To pay—3a) of tribute. Strong—To end, i.e. Complete, execute, conclude, discharge(a debt).
Argumentation:
Isa 53:10-12—“Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand. He shall see the labor of His soul, & be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, For He shall bear their iniquities. Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, And He shall divide the spoil with the strong, Because He poured out His soul unto death, And He was numbered with the transgressors, And He bore the sin of many, And made intercession for the transgressors.”
Rom. 10:4—“For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.”
Col. 2:13-15—“And you, being dead in your trespasses & the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Having disarmed principalities & powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.”
Notice the Aorist tenses—These actions have taken place once with their effects lasting for all time.
2Tim. 3:16-17—“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, & is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
1Tim. 6:6-11—“Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, & it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food & clothing, with these we shall be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation & a snare, & into many foolish & harmful lusts which drown men in destruction & perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, & pierced themselves through with many sorrows. But you, O man of God, flee these things & pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.”
