Introduction:. John is the last one of the disciples left…he is in his 90”s but because he is still a threat to the gospel movement, he is arrested not put in jail be sent to an island called patmos…this rocky island is used primarily for politician prisoners. put in exile so not to advance their cause…prisoners were forced to work in the mines on the island. .patmos is east of the Aegean sea, its approximately 10 miles long and 5 miles wide at its widest point…its shape like a crescent. ( the movie Papillion “ Dustin Hoffman and Steve McQueen were prisoners on devil’s island ) 28 off the coast of Asia Minor. Lost citizenship. lost personal property. Revelation portrays wickedness, a book of visions, one after another…look thru the eyes of john…JOHN ATTEMPTS TO DESCRIBE GLORY…HE MAKES A GALLANT EFFORT…not his imagination but and actual record of what took place. he could describes with the best of his ability…you see one cannot describe Glory….the first vision he saw…the resurrected glorified Christ. .in magnificent glory…blazing glory of Jesus as never seen before

MAGNIFICENT GLORY-

1) Condition of John verse 9…read Albeit John was faced with inexpressible adversity . He was bound physically, but they could not bind his spirit. ( He says I was in the spirit on the Sabbath day. We have assumed that John lost track of time and this meant he recognized the Sabbath. But we must not over look the possibility that he was saying he was caught up in the spirit as ( as Paul talked about himself in the 3rd person when he went into the 3rd heaven.)

GOD BRINGS GREATNESS OUT OF TRADEGY

Some examples:

Moses when he wrote the pentauchet; troubled in the wilderness

Ezekiel wrote lonely in exile

Jeremiah wrote in tears

Isaiah –wrote in constant pain and suffering

Paul wrote behind a jail cell

Peter wrote his books when he was about to be crucified upside down

David wrote many psalms while being pursued by Saul

Dr. King wrote from a Birmingham jail behind bars of racism and discrimination.

JOHN: - LOOK AT HE HUMILTY OF JOHN –

He does not say, I am the disciple that Jesus loved, I’m the one that Jesus left in charge of his Mother. He simply says I John your brother…..

2) VISION OF JOHN:

HEAD AND HAIR WHITE AS WOOL, EYES AS FLAMES OF FIRE….

HIS FEET WERE LIKE FINE BRONZE..WHY HIS FEET AND NOT HIS HANDS….ONE BOWED DOWN TO THE KING..WHAT YOU SAW WERE HIS FEET.

BRONZE REPRESENTED JUDGEMENT…VICTUALS IN THE TEMPLE…WERE MADE OF BRASS AND BRONZE….

HIS VOICE AS THE SOUNDS OF MANY WATERS…ON THIS ISLAND JOHN HEARD THE CONSTANT SOUND OF BREAKERS CRASHING AGAINST THE ROCKS….BUT THIS SOUND IS DIFFERENT…SOUND OF MANY WATERS…..DAY WILL COME WHEN MEN WILL HEAR HIS VOICE…MAY NOT KNOW THE DAY WILL COME WHEN HE RETURNS AND HIS VOICE WILL BE AS SOUNDS OF MANY WATERS

7 STARS IN HIS HANDS…(ANGELS OF THE MINISTERS ) (HIS PREACHERS/MINISTERS ) HOLLYWOOD HAS HIS STARS, BUT GOD’S STARS ARE HIS PREACHERS. ( THOSE WHO BRING MEN TO CHRIST ARE STARS )….HARVEST TRULY IS RIPE BUT THE LABORERS ARE FEW….

2 EDGE SWORD…HEB 4: ( TWO DIFFERENT SWORD….HERE IS A DOUBLE SIZE SWORD….IN HEBEREWS CONIVCTS,CUTS TO AND FRO BUT .HERE IS THE SWORD THAT JUDGESS……

THE SUN WAS SO BRILLANT…NO NEED FOR THE SUN OR THE MOON TO SHINE…..NO NEED FOR LIGHT BULBS IN HEAVEN…

3) REACTION OF JOHN (VERSE 17:) JOHN SAID I FELL AT HIS FEET AS A DEAD MAN…

JESUS STOPPED LONG ENOUGH TO TOUCH JOHN…HE SAID FEAR NOT JOHN, I AM ALPHA AND OMEGA, THE FIRST AND THE LAST…SCRIPTURE SAYS HE TOUCHED JOHN WITH HIS RIGHT HAND…I AM HE WHO LIVETH BUT WAS DEAD, I HOLD THE KEYS TO HELL AND THE GRAVE…..

Conclusion: WHAT JOHN DID NOT SEE---NO TEMPLE – NO SUN –MOON- NO PRAYER MEETINGS – TIME WILL BE NO MORE TEARS ..NO NIGHT IN HEAVEN……..
