To emphasize the importance and benefits of abiding in Christ, as it is essential for our spiritual health and well-being. Without Him, we can do nothing.

Introduction

Hey, family! I'm so glad you could join us today. We're going to dive into some deep stuff today, so buckle up. We're going to talk about the importance of remaining in Christ, the benefits we receive when we abide in Jesus, and why it's absolutely necessary for our spiritual health and well-being.

I came across a quote from Andrew Murray, a respected Christian author, theologian, and pastor, that I think will set the tone for our discussion today. He said, "Abide in Jesus, the sinless One - which means, give up all of self and its life, and dwell in God's will and rest in His strength. This is what brings the power that does not commit sin." What powerful words.

I. Remaining in Christ

Remaining in Christ is a concept that is deeply rooted in the Christian faith. It is the idea of being constantly connected to Jesus, just as a branch is connected to the vine. This connection is not a one-time event, but a continual, daily decision to stay plugged into our source of life. It is a conscious choice to live in the presence of Jesus, to draw our strength from Him, and to allow His life to flow through us.

When we remain in Christ, we are not just passively existing, but actively living in Him. It is a dynamic, vibrant relationship that involves constant communication, mutual love, and deep intimacy. It is about making Jesus the center of our lives, the anchor of our souls, and the ruler of our hearts. It is about allowing His Word to dwell in us richly, to guide our decisions, shape our attitudes, and transform our lives.

Remaining in Christ also means being obedient to His commands. Jesus said, "If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love" (John 15:10). Obedience is not a way to earn God's love, but a response to His love. It is a way to express our love for Him and to align our lives with His will.

Moreover, remaining in Christ involves bearing fruit. Jesus said, "I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing" (John 15:5). The fruit that Jesus is talking about here is the fruit of the Spirit, which includes love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). When we remain in Christ, His life flows through us, producing these qualities in us.

However, remaining in Christ is not always easy. It requires humility, surrender, and sacrifice. It requires us to die to ourselves, to our desires, and to our plans. It requires us to take up our cross daily and follow Jesus. It requires us to trust in Him, even when we don't understand His ways. It requires us to rely on His strength, even when we feel weak. It requires us to persevere in faith, even when we face trials and tribulations.
