JEPHTHAH’S CALL

Judges 11:1-11

(I) Son of an Harlot (Born in Sin)

By birth he was disqualified from entering into the congregation of the Lord.

(A) Deuteronomy 23:2, (NIV) ,(No one born of a forbidden marriage nor any of his descendants may enter the assembly of the LORD, even down to the tenth generation. )

Sin disqualifies us from entering into the promises of God.

(B) Job 14:4,(Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.)

(C) Psalm 51:5,( Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.)

(D) John 3:3,(Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.)

(E) Romans 3:23,( For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;)

(F) I John 1:8,( If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.)

(II) Disinherited (Separated)

His right to inherit by succession was destroyed through his father’s sin. Our right to inherit God’s blessings was destroyed by Adam and Eve.

(A) Deuteronomy 21:16,(Then it shall be, when he maketh his sons to inherit that which he hath, that he may not make the son of the beloved firstborn before the son of the hated, which is indeed the firstborn:)

(B) Isaiah 59:2,( But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.)

(C) Psalm 66:8,(If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:)

(D) Luke 15:13,( And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.)

(E) I Corinthians 6:9,10,(Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

10. Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.)

(F) Hebrews 2:3,( How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation)

(III) Invitation to return

The call came to Jephthah as the call of the gospel came to us, while we were yet sinners.

(A) Genesis 7:1,( And the Lord said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.)

(B) Isaiah 1:18,( Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.)

God calls us today just as he did Jephthah.

(C) Matthew 11:28,29,(Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.)

(D) Revelation 22:17,( And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.)

(E) John 6:37,( All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.)

(IV) Reconciled with God

(A) Psalm 34:18,( The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.)

(B) Psalm 51:17,( The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.)

(C) Ezekiel 18:31,(Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?)

(D) II Chronicles 7:14,( If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.)

(E) Acts 17:30,( And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:)

(V) New Life

(A) II Corinthians 5:17,( Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.)

(B) Psalm 51:9,10,(Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.

10. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.)

(C) Romans 12:1,2,( 1. I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
