Summary: The completion of the redemptive work of Jesus on the cross.

IT IS FINISHED

JN 19:30

. John 19:30 (NKJV)

30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!" And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.

1. THE PERSON OF SIN HAS BEEN DEFEATED- SATAN’S DEFEAT WAS COMPLETE WHEN JESUS DIED ON THE CROSS:

GOD MADE 3 PROMISES WHEN ADAM SINNED IN THE GARDEN, ONE TO ADAM, ONE TO EVE AND ONE TO SATAN- SATAN’S PROMISE WAS FULFILLED WHEN JESUS DIED ON THE CROSS!

Genesis 3:15 (NKJV)

15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel."

Colossians 2:14-15 (NKJV)

14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.

2. THE POWER OF SIN HAS BEEN BROKEN FOR THOSE WHO WILL PLACE THEIR FAITH, HOPE AND TRUST IN JESUS- WE HAVE THE POWER AND ABILITY AS CHRISTIANS TO SAY “NO” TO SIN BECAUSE IT’S POWER WAS BROKEN:

Romans 6:12-14 (NKJV)

12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.

13 And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.

14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

3. BECAUSE OF THE CROSS WE ARE GOING TO A PLACE WHERE THERE ISN’T EVEN GOING TO BE “THE PRESENCE” OF SIN- WE ARE GOING TO HEAVEN ONE DAY BECAUSE JESUS LOVES US:

1 Corinthians 15:54-58 (NKJV)

54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: "Death is swallowed up in victory."

55 "O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?"

56 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.

57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

Revelation 21:1-8 (NKJV)

1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.

2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.

4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."

5 Then He who sat on the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." And He said to me, "Write, for these words are true and faithful."

6 And He said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts.

7 He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.

8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."
