Summary: This is about how it doesn't matter to God where you are from, where you have been or what you have done God can use you anyway

What am I talking about this Morning? What doesn’t matter to God? It doesn’t matter where you have been or what you have done. What matters is where you are headed.

I want you to be honest with yourself this morning, I want you to think about something. If it doesn’t matter to God where someone comes from or what they have done why should it matter to me? Why do we doubt ourselves sometimes because of where we have been or what we have done? The thing is I think we sometimes fail to reach our full potential on the journey to our final destination because in our minds we doubt that God can use us in mighty ways.

Today I want you to be open to receiving this message and whatever else God may have in store for you, no matter where you have been, no matter what you may have done. We also should never discount others because of where they have been or what they have done, we don’t know the work that God may be doing in their lives. Let’s look at the story of Rahab today and I think you will see how God can use anyone for His purpose.

Joshua sent a couple of spies to scope out Jericho. These guys went to Jericho and entered the house of a prostitute named Rahab and set up their stake out there. Well someone went to the king of Jericho and said “King a couple of Israelites are in the city over at Rahab’s place spying on us. So the King sent word to Rahab to send the men out because they were spies.

Read Joshua 2: 4-7

Before the spies went to sleep Rahab went up on the roof to have a little talk with them. She told them she knew the Lord was going to defeat the city for them and that they had heard how God had dried up the sea for them when they were fleeing Pharaohs army, she had heard what they did to two Kings on the other side of the Jordan and that the people of Jericho were scared of the Israelites. She told them she knew their God was God of heaven and Earth.

God could never use a woman like Rahab, could He? She was from Jericho, she was a prostitute and it’s obvious she had no problems with telling a little fib every now and then. Could God use her despite where she had been and what she had done? Let’s see...

Rahab said hey guys I helped you out know I need you to do me a favor. I want you to promise me that ya’ll will take care of me and my family and not let us die. The two men said “hey if you keep this on the down low we will take care of you and your family when the Lord gives us the land.” So she lowered them down from a window and told them to wait three days till the search party came back then they could high tail it out of there. They told Rahab that she needed to a Red Woven Cord in the window she lowered them from and get all her family together at her place and to keep quiet and they would honor the agreement. Everything went off as planned and the spies made it back to base camp and reported to Joshua and told him everything that had happened and that the Lord was going to hand the city over to them.

Nothing up till this point mattered to God. He delivered Rahab despite her past mistakes and He used her despite her faults to bring deliverance to us. Here’s how… In Matthew chapter 1 we find the genealogy of Jesus and Rahab is right there in the middle of it. Rahab was the mother of Boaz who became the father of Obed, who became the father of Jesse who was the father of King David and the list goes on down the line till we get to Jesus. Rahab was the great, great grandmother of King David.

Don’t ever say that God can’t use you, if He can use a prostitute from Jericho to help bring Jesus Christ into the world he certainly can use you and I. We just need to be open and receptive to the movement of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

We have to forget that mindset that we are from the wrong place, or have too much baggage or problems GOD can use you.

Let me tell you about one more person that God use to accomplish a purpose when she changed her destination, we find her in John chapter 4. Jesus has an encounter with a Samaritan woman at the local well. This woman has some strikes against her, first she’s from the wrong side of the tracks, she’s been married multiple times and on top of all that she’s shacking up with someone at the time of the encounter. God couldn’t use her could He? Yes He could and He did… She went back home and told everybody and they came to meet Jesus. God used this broken Samaritan woman to evangelize a whole town. Don’t think that God cannot use you. It doesn’t matter where you have been or what you have done God can use you.
