Invite those you know

Introduction:

*The 21st of this month is Back to Church Sunday which is designed to be a opportunity for us to have a special service dedicated to people who do not normally attend church,

*a time when those who have left the church can be encouraged to return and give it another try.

*This morning I want to address a question that many believers have

“How do we get people to come to church?”

*First thing I want you to know is that one of the most important things you can do to get people to come to church is invite them

*I saw a church sign once that said Where the pastor’s name would normally be listed, these words it said “Minister: Every Member.”

*It is important for us to understand that Jesus has assigned each and everyone of us the task of carrying out the Great Commission

Matthew 28:18-20

*When we come to understand that is our duty then we will begin to ask the question “What can I do?”

*Maybe some of you are asking that question right now.

*Maybe you feel the responsibility to help people come to know Christ, and know the wonderful fellowship that exists among the believers in the local church.

*However maybe when you ask, “What can I do?” thoughts enter your mind of well I'm just not qualified for any type of ministry work.

*I want to encourage you all that what I am challenging you all to do is not as difficult as we make it out to be.

*All it takes is for us to think of someone we know, and then to invite that person to church.

*It has been said that the number one reason people don’t go to church is because no one has invited them.

*It is very important that we invite people to church, and it’s a simple task.

*Which now leads to the question of who do we invite?

*Well We all know more people than we think we do!

*So my answer to the question of who should we invite is to just start Inviting Who We Know.

*we all know people, and these are individuals that we can focus our evangelism efforts on

*Here is some of those we can invite to church

I. Our Family

Acts 10:24, 44-48

24 And the morrow after they entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his kinsmen and near friends.

44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. 45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, 47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

*In verse 24 We see here that Cornelius invited his “relatives” and “close friends” to come hear Peter speak

*Then in verse 44 We see that what they heard Peter speak was “the word".

*If we was to look back to verse 36 we would see that Peter spoke about Jesus.

*In verse 39 Peter said they killed Jesus by hanging Him on a tree, which was the cross,

*in verse 40 Peter declared, “God had raised him up on the third day . . .”

1 Corinthians 15:3-4,

3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

*Basically put peter preached what is called the gospel message – That Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.
