Explores the depth of Job's relationship with God, emphasizing the importance and impact of divine intimacy in shaping our lives.
Hey there, everyone! It's so awesome to see you all here. We're about to kick off a talk that I think is going to really hit home for a lot of us. I mean, who among us doesn't long for a deeper, more intimate relationship with God, right?
Today, we're going to be hanging out in the book of Job, specifically chapter 29. Now, I know what you're thinking. Job? Really? Isn't that the guy who had all the bad stuff happen to him? And you're right, but stick with me here. There's so much more to Job's story than just his trials and tribulations.
I came across this quote from A.W. Tozer that I think really sets the stage for our talk today. He said, "What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." That's something, isn't it? It's all about our relationship with God, how we see Him, and how we interact with Him.
So, let's read Job 29 together:

Let's pray.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for bringing us all here today. As we look at Job's life, help us to see the depth of his relationship with you and how it shaped his life. Open our hearts to what you want to teach us today. We're ready to learn, Lord. We're ready to know you more. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Alright, so let's get into it. Our first main point is going to be looking at the depths of intimacy. Then we'll move on to understanding Job's relationship with God. And finally, we'll see the impact of divine intimacy on Job's life. Let's get started!
When we look at Job's life, we see a man who had a deep, intimate relationship with God. This wasn't a surface-level acquaintance. It was a profound connection that shaped every aspect of his life. Job knew God, and God knew Job. This is the kind of relationship that we should all strive for, a relationship that goes beyond just knowing about God to truly knowing Him.
Verse 2: Job says, "Oh, that I were as in months gone by, As in the days when God watched over me." This is a man who felt God's presence in his life. He knew that God was with him, watching over him, guiding him. He felt God's light shining on him, even in the darkest times. This is a level of intimacy that we should all strive for, a level of intimacy that brings comfort and peace, even in the midst of trials and tribulations.
Verse 4: Job says, "As I was in the prime of my days, When the friendship of God was over my tent." Here, Job is talking about the closeness of his relationship with God. He's not just talking about God as a distant, impersonal deity. He's talking about God as a friend, someone who is close, someone who cares. This is a level of intimacy that we should all strive for, a level of intimacy that brings a sense of belonging and acceptance.
Verse 6: Job talks about how his steps were "bathed in butter, And the rock poured out for me streams of oil!" This is a metaphor for the abundance and blessing that comes from a deep, intimate relationship with God. When we are close to God, when we walk in His ways, we experience His blessings in our lives. This is a level of intimacy that we should all strive for, a level of intimacy that brings abundance and blessing.
Verses 14 and 15: Job says, "I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; My justice was like a robe and a turban. I was eyes to the blind And feet to the lame." Here, Job is talking about the impact of his relationship with God on his actions. His intimacy with God led him to live a life of righteousness and justice. He was a blessing to others because of his relationship with God. This is a level of intimacy that we should all strive for, a level of intimacy that leads us to live lives that reflect God's love and justice.
