Summary: Jesus Intercedes for Us and we should Intercede for each other.
Happy "Interceding " Saturday, Everyone!
This week we are jumping from John's gospel to the book of Hebrews. This is actually my favorite New Testament book. The title of the lesson is Jesus Intercedes for Us, taken from Hebrews 4:14-5:10. Two of the verses that strike a cord for me this week are Hebrews 4:15-16
"This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same temptations we do, yet he did not sin. [16] So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it." NLT.
This week I was approached by a supervisor asking for my help. He said one of his workers showed up to work and has been crying ever since. It was around 11:00 so I was thinking surely this person hasn't been crying since 6:00 this morning. I come to find that he was an Iraq war veteran and has been on 2 tours in Iraq and has had 40 concussions. My heart immediately sank for this guy as I watched him in tears, struggling with his physical and mental pain.
I loaded him up in my vehicle and took him back to his home where waiting we had his neighbor ready to take him to the VA hospital nearby.
BUT...on the way...I was handed by God, A Divine Appointment! I was given the opportunity to share Jesus Christ and His love. I was able to comfort this man with the love of God, the compassion of Christ, the calming Word, the Hope of eternal life, and the future that is brighter than the sun. As I drove up I-95 towards his home I noticed that he had stopped crying. And with a soft questioning voice he looked and said, "I'm gonna' go to church. What kind would you suggest?"
Friends, it was all I could do to contain myself. I didn't want to cry for fear that he would start to cry again, sooooooooooooooooooooo what I did was this...I interceded for him. I went boldly to the Throne of Grace in prayer and supplication for the words to say and then Petition for him. My man, even cracked a smile, I think in relief. As I dropped him off I promised that I would continue to pray for him.
Matthew was back to work...the next day.
Jesus Intercedes for Us and we should Intercede for each other.
God bless you all. Look for Divine Appointments this week. You will be given the words to say. Amen!
