This sermon explores the healing power of faith through the story of a woman's encounter with Jesus, encouraging us to reach out to God in faith.
Welcome, beloved family of Christ. I am so glad to see each one of you here today, eager and ready to delve into the beautiful truth of God's Word. We find ourselves, once again, in the presence of His grace, a grace that is as constant as the sunrise, as enduring as the mountains, and as boundless as the sea. It is in this grace that we find our hope, our healing, and our faith.
Today, we will be turning our hearts and minds to the Gospel of Mark, specifically Mark 5:25-34. This passage reveals to us a remarkable narrative, a story that echoes through the centuries and lands here, in our hearts, today. It is a story of a woman who, though plagued by illness and ostracized by society, found her healing, her hope, and her faith in the touch of Jesus' cloak. Let's read the passage together:
'A large crowd followed and pressed around him. And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, because she thought, 'If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.' Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering. At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, 'Who touched my clothes?' 'You see the people crowding against you,' his disciples answered, 'and yet you can ask, 'Who touched me?'' But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. He said to her, 'Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.'
The woman in our passage today found herself in a desperate situation. She had been suffering for twelve long years, and her condition was only getting worse. She had sought help from many doctors and spent all she had, but to no avail. Yet, in the midst of her suffering, she heard about Jesus. She heard about His miracles, His compassion, His power. And so, she made a decision. A decision that would change her life forever. She decided to reach out to Jesus in faith.
This woman believed that if she could just touch Jesus' cloak, she would be healed. And so, she pushed through the crowd, reached out her hand, and touched His cloak. And in that moment, she was healed. Her faith in Jesus had made her well. This story is not just a tale from the past. It is a lesson for us today. It teaches us about the power of faith, the power of believing in Jesus. When we put our trust in Him, when we reach out to Him in faith, we too can experience His healing power.
But faith requires us to step out of our comfort zones and take a risk. This woman had to push through the crowd, she had to overcome her fear, she had to take a risk. But she did it. She stepped out in faith, and because of her courage, because of her perseverance, she was healed.
Faith also requires humility. She couldn't heal herself. She knew she needed Jesus. And so, she humbled herself, she admitted her need, and she reached out to Jesus in faith. And because of her humility, because of her acknowledgement of her need for Jesus, she was healed.
Finally, faith requires action. She acted on her belief. She reached out and touched His cloak. She put her faith into action. And because of her action, because of her willingness to act on her faith, she was healed.
As we continue to immerse ourselves in the narrative of this woman, we find ourselves standing with her in the midst of her struggles ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
