To understand and embrace Jesus as the "Bread of Life," the spiritual sustenance that truly satisfies and sustains us, and to live our lives in faith in Him.

Introduction

Good morning, church family. I'm excited to share a message with you today from the gospel of John, where Jesus gives us a beautiful metaphor that's as relevant today as it was over 2,000 years ago. He calls Himself "The Bread of Life." Now, I know we all love a good loaf of bread, but Jesus isn't talking about the kind you pick up at the grocery store. He's talking about spiritual sustenance, the kind of food that truly satisfies and sustains us.

Let's read together from John 6:25-35 [read text].

Let's pray. Dear heavenly Father, we thank you for the gift of your Son, the Bread of Life. We ask that you open our hearts and minds to understand your Word today. Guide us to find the true satisfaction that only comes from a life lived in faith in Christ. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

So let's dive in and discover what it means to be nourished by the Bread of Life, to find our source of satisfaction in Him, and to live in faith.

I. The Bread of Life

The Bread of Life is a phrase that's rich in meaning and depth, and it's one that we can spend a lifetime unpacking.

A. When Jesus declares, "I am the bread of life," He is revealing His divine nature and His mission to nourish and sustain us spiritually. Bread, in its most basic form, is a staple food. It's a source of nourishment that sustains life. In many cultures around the world, bread is a symbol of life itself. So when Jesus refers to Himself as the Bread of Life, He is saying that He is essential to our spiritual life. Just as physical bread nourishes our bodies, Jesus, the Bread of Life, nourishes our souls.

But there's more to this metaphor.

B. When Jesus says, "whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst," He is not only speaking of physical hunger and thirst but also of a deeper, spiritual hunger and thirst. We all have a longing, a deep-seated desire for something more, something that the world cannot satisfy. We try to fill this void with various things – money, success, relationships, pleasures – but none of these can truly satisfy. They are like junk food that leaves us feeling empty and unsatisfied. But Jesus offers us something different. He offers us Himself, the Bread of Life, the only one who can truly satisfy our deepest hunger and quench our deepest thirst.

Moreover, the Bread of Life is a continual feast. Jesus invites us to partake of Him daily, to feed on Him, to find our sustenance in Him. This is not a passive act but an active one. It involves coming to Him, believing in Him, abiding in Him. It's a daily choice to turn to Him for our spiritual nourishment, to rely on Him for our strength, to find our satisfaction in Him alone.

The Bread of Life is also a gift. Jesus says, "the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you." We cannot earn this bread. We cannot work for it. It's a gift that Jesus freely gives to those who come to Him in faith. It's a gift of grace, a gift of love, a gift of life.

The Bread of Life is not only for our personal nourishment but also for our communal sharing. Just as physical bread is often shared in meals, the Bread of Life is meant to be shared in the community of believers. As we partake of Jesus, the Bread of Life, we are drawn into a deeper fellowship with one another. We become one body, nourished and sustained by the same Bread of Life.

In essence, the Bread of Life is a beautiful picture of who Jesus is and what He offers us. He is the source of our spiritual life, the one who satisfies our deepest hunger and thirst, the one who invites us to partake of Him daily, the one who gives us the gift of eternal life, and the one who unites us in fellowship.

II. The Source of Satisfaction

The source of our satisfaction is a concept that is central to our understanding of Jesus as the Bread of Life ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
