In the Beginning God

Do you know that nowhere in the bible does the Prophets, Jesus or the Holy Spirit tried to prove that there is a God?

Geneses 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

John 1:1-2 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.

The Jews knew about God because He chose them to be His people. They had been following Him all their life.

The Gentiles knew of a god but needed to be told about Yahweh. Their idea of god was a gold, stone or wood idol that they would make sacrifices and offerings to, or they would do some other immoral acts for.

The ancients could then, just as we can now, go to any part of the world, civilized or not, and you will find people worshipping some sort of idol or god. God has instilled in us to worship.

People know that there has to be some sort of higher being or a higher power. Baal, Buda, the sun, moon or stars, anything that people could put some kind of faith or phenomena to or unknown knowledge of to worship.

It sounds a little funny to hear people talk about the golf gods, or the god of the fishes, or how their horoscope is directing their lives. Everyone has a god of some sort in their lives, but is it the right one?

Dan 11:36-38 "The king will do as he pleases. He will exalt and magnify himself above every god and will say unheard-of things against the God of gods. He will be successful until the time of wrath is completed, for what has been determined must take place. 37 He will show no regard for the gods of his fathers or for the one desired by women, nor will he regard any god, but will exalt himself above them all. 38 Instead of them, he will honor a god of fortresses; a god unknown to his fathers he will honor with gold and silver, with precious stones and costly gifts.

The world is just like this king, because he is of this world. The world will put its self ahead of anyone and anything that will stand between his personal honor and glory and desires.

When we don’t understand something, we will make up some kind of logical explanation to cover the situation. It’s the gods, its fate, its luck; we will find something that will cover the situation, to give it an explanation that will not make us look stupid.

If you go back to Geneses where Adam and Eve were in the garden, all things were created by God. They had no other explanation; it was God that did it. That’s it, that’s all.

Now mankind is farther away from the garden and the presence of God in our lives, so now we have to make up things and powers that do all these things.

Acts 17:22-23 Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areo-pagus and said: "Men of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. 23 For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Now what you worship as something unknown I am going to proclaim to you.

Paul could see that there was a void in their spiritual lives. They knew there was something more, but they did not know who or what it was.

They had a god that had no name, “Unknown God”, and Paul had the name for Him. He is the God of all gods.

He knew that He was the “I Am”. "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty." Rev 1:8

I don’t think we need to prove that there is a God; we just need to show people that He is already in their life; they just have not recognized Him.

1 Corinthians 8:4b-6 We know that an idol is nothing at all in the world and that there is no God but one. 5 For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many "gods" and many "lords"), 6 yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.

For the church to enter the world of the “Pre-believers”, it is important for us to use things of their world to work with them. We might need to use one of their gods to get them to understand more about our God.
