Genesis 1 (2)

In the Beginning God Created

- Read Genesis 1

In the beginning God created. Did you notice, during this time of creation, it lists days?

At the end of verse 5, “There was an evening, and there was a morning, day 1. Verse 8, God called the expanse sky. Evening came and then morning, the second day.

The Bible teaches that God created the heavens and the earth and everything in them in 7 days. 7 literal, 24 hour days.

Gene you don’t really believe that do you? You don’t really believe that everything we see and everything we know was created in 7 literal 24 hour days do you?

Yes I do. I believe this Bible cover to cover. I believe every word of it.

Does it really matter what you believe about creation?

Yes it does. There are those who want to cut out the first 11 chapters of the book of Genesis. They want to do away with the creation account. They want to do away with the account of Noah and a world-wide flood that covered the earth.

Let me ask you my friend, “When people start taking apart the Bible and deciding what parts to believe and what parts not to believe, by what standard do you judge its accuracy? By what standard do you measure its truth?

We are not designed or created to judge the truthfulness of scripture, it was designed and created to judge us.

> 2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

All Scripture is given by the inspiration of God.

> Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Scripture judges us, we care not called to judge scripture.

So, when the Bible says that God created the heavens and the earth in 7 days, I believe it. When it says that a flood covered the earth and destroyed all life other than what was on the ark, I believe it. When it says that Jonah was swallowed by a great fish and that he remained in the belly of that fish for 3 days, I believe it. When it says that God parted the Red Sea so Moses and the Israelites could walk through it, I believe it. When it says that the Israelites walked around Jericho for 7 days and on the last day they blew their trumpets and the walls fell down, I believe it. When it says that Jesus spoke and calmed a storm, that He called Lazarus from the grave after 4 days, that He was crucified for my sins, that He was buried and rose again 3 days later, I believe it. When the Bible says that Jesus is coning again to take us all to a place that He has prepared for us, I believe it.

I believe the Bible cover to cover.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Genesis 1:1 says, “In the beginning, God created.” There was no preamble, no introduction of God. The Bible simply begins, “In the beginning, God created.” My friends, if we could only get that one fact straight, the rest would come easy. God has created all things.

1. God created the universe – Think for a moment of that first encounter between Satan and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Look for a moment at Genesis 3:1. - Read Genesis 3:1

Here were Adam and Eve in the garden. They had no problems, they had no worries, no disease, no suffering, they had no pain and no death; then came the Devil. In verse 1 he asks, “Has God said . . .?” Then he moves to step 2 of his plan. In verse 4 he says, “Ye shall not surely die.” Then he concludes in verse 4 by saying, “You shall be as gods.” My friends, all of this stuff about the Big Bang, and evolution is nothing more than the same old lie the Devil has been telling from the beginning, “Ye shall be as gods.” The Devil wants to do all he can to convince us that we are nothing more than the result of a cosmic burp that took place some 41/2 to 5 Billion years ago, and he has done all he could to reinforce the idea that there is no Creator, no One that we are responsible to by instilling that lie in the minds of our children.

Adolph Hitler once said, “If you tell a lie long enough and loud enough, and often enough, people will believe it.” By repeating the lie that the world was created by chance again and again and again, over billions of years, some have come to the conclusion that all of life is the result of chance and so there is no Creator to be responsible to.
