This sermon explores the birth of Jesus, emphasizing God's unending love, His promise to guide and save us, and His divine presence in our lives.
Good morning, dear friends! It is indeed a joy to gather together in this sacred space, in the presence of our Heavenly Father, to reflect on His divine Word. We are here to immerse ourselves in the richness of His teachings, to find comfort, guidance, and hope in the divine narrative of His love for us.
Today, we turn our hearts and minds to the first chapter of Matthew, verses 18 through 25. Let us read together:
'This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.
But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, 'Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.'
All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 'The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel' (which means 'God with us').
When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.'
The birth of Jesus was a fulfillment of prophecy. The prophets of old had spoken of His coming. They had described His birth, His life, and His mission. And now, here He was, the Messiah, the Savior, the Son of God. His birth was a divine affirmation of the truth of God's Word. It was a tangible proof of God's faithfulness to His promises.
This manifestation was not just for the people of Israel, but for all of humanity. Jesus was born to be the Savior of the world. His birth was a declaration of God's love for all people, regardless of race, nationality, or social status. It was a demonstration of God's desire to save us, to redeem us, and to bring us into a relationship with Him.
The birth of Jesus was also a revelation of God's character. In Jesus, we see the heart of God. We see His love, His compassion, His grace, and His mercy. We see His humility, His selflessness, His patience, and His kindness. In Jesus, we see God.
