Summary: Why so many feel trapped within sin and bondage that they cannot escape. What are you really willing to do to be free?

“If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land”. 2nd Chronicles 7:14

I believe this is one of the most important scriptures God has taught me over the years about being in bondage or feeling trapped within a lifestyle that so many people cannot seem to escape. Many people will go for years wondering why God won’t deliver them from something, just as I did. But also one of the things I have learned, is that nine times out of ten, the flesh doesn’t really WANT to let go of sin and bondage. Simply because our own emotions and desires get lazy, complacent, and “set in their ways” and it’s just to difficult to fight with them anymore. And of course satan will do his best to convince us that we don’t really NEED to let go of it, for a multitude of logical sounding reasons.

But one of the things that I found out about myself, that really hurt to know, was that I was being “spiritually lazy” by not letting God do what He wanted to do so badly in my life. And I still am with some things, but I want to do better and get over myself. So many times we want all the answers and the delivering and healing power of God in our lives, but we want them on our own terms and in OUR time. Many times we just aren’t willing to work or fight hard enough to get what we need from God-because many of us actually LIKE being in bondage. Because it makes us feel like we are being some sort of martyr for God, and He will pat us on the back for it. That’s the way I used to feel, and I really didn’t even realize it-or didn’t want to.

Most people may think their “land” in the scripture above is talking about their property, state, or county in which they live. And I’m not going to say that isn’t true, because in many cases I feel it is. But I also believe that your “land” can also mean your LIFE and everything that makes up your own existence. Such as your health, home, your family, relatives, finances, your children’s lives, etc. It’s just that each and every one of us has to be ready and completely willing to turn from our wicked ways. And that means from every area of our lives-all the way down to our deepest and most hidden secrets, habits and sins that we don’t really want anyone to know about.

We cannot be “spiritually lazy” about our lives and expect God to do all the work, not to mention physically lazy about it as well. I realize it may take time and growth to be healed physically or mentally and emotionally of a thing, but we have to be willing to do whatever it takes to achieve that goal. For example, if someone needs to be healed of pornography or a sexual bondage, then that person needs to do whatever it takes to keep themselves away from a situation that may end up causing them to fall and fail. One of the biggest keys is to be around like minded Christians that will encourage, support and hold you up. Praise, worship, and being in a constant state of thankfulness is a big strength builder. And we really don’t have to be in church or at a good meeting to feel the presence of God in our lives and situations.

Bible reading and prayer is the most major part of the healing process. And when you pray, just be real about it and tell the Lord how you honestly feel and what you’re going through. If you find yourself in a position where you want something sexual, tell God about it. And as weird as this may sound to some, pray over and dedicate your body and all of it’s parts to God-from eyes, to hands, to feet-and yes, everything else.

And last, we need to learn everything we can about our God and savior Jesus Christ as a real person. Because, like Jesus said, not all who call Him “Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven- because He never knew them (Matt. 7:21-23). Why? Because they never took the time to get to know HIM and who He really is or have a personal relationship with Him. ANYONE can say this or that “in the name of Jesus”, but do we really KNOW Him? Anyone could very easily say, “I come in the name of Rick” but that doesn’t mean they know anything about me or who I really am as a person of flesh and blood (or used to be if I was gone). So we have to know who we are serving here, and just be willing to walk away from anything in our lives that will hold us back, or down. And He will hear from heaven and heal our land. There is so much God desires to do for each and every one of us. And all He asks of us, is if we will......then He will.
