Youth Sermon: If You Love Me

Loving Jesus and Obeying His Commands

Hey everyone! Today, we're going to talk about something super important: loving Jesus and obeying His commands. I know, I know, it sounds kinda boring, but trust me, it's going to be great. So, let's dive in!

I want to focus on one main idea: loving Jesus. This means obeying His commands, even when it's tough. But don't worry, He's given us the Holy Spirit to help us out. Through the Spirit, we can experience the amazing love shared between Jesus and God.

Loving Jesus means obeying His commands, even when it's tough.

The Role of the Holy Spirit

Alright, I need a volunteer. Great! Now, I have here a jar of peanut butter and a spoon. Your task is to eat a spoonful of peanut butter without drinking any water. Ready? Go!

Wow, good job! That was tough, right? You probably felt like you needed some help, like a glass of water, to get through that. Well, that's kind of like our walk with Jesus. Sometimes, obeying His commands can be really difficult, and we need some help. That's where the Holy Spirit comes in!

Scripture: John 14:15-21, Romans 8:9, Galatians 4:6, Ephesians 2:22

A Real-Life Example

Let me tell you a story about my friend, Alex. Alex was having a hard time at school. He was being bullied, and it was really getting to him. He knew that Jesus said to love and forgive others, but it was so hard for him to do that. He prayed and asked God for help, and guess what? The Holy Spirit helped him find the strength to forgive and even befriend the person who was bullying him. How cool is that?

Application and Prayer

So, what does this all mean for us? It means that when we're struggling to obey Jesus' commands, we can ask the Holy Spirit for help. We don't have to do it alone! This week, try to think of one area where you're struggling to obey Jesus, and ask the Holy Spirit to help you out. You might be surprised at the difference it makes!

Let's finish with a prayer: Jesus, thank You for loving us and giving us the Holy Spirit to help us obey Your commands. Help us to rely on the Spirit when things get tough, and to experience the amazing love You have for us. Amen.
