IF YOU ARE RISEN WITH CHRIST 1

TEXT- COLOSSIANS 3:1-9, ROMANS 6:4

INTRODUCTION

Apostle Paul admonished and warned the Church at colosse about their dominion in Christ and the destructive works of the flesh respectively. It has a lot to do with our focus in life- on earth or in heaven. We must never present our body to sin, or let it reign in our body but we must reckon ourselves dead - Romans 6:2.

A) SET YOUR EYES ABOVE - Colossians 3:1-2, Philippians 4:8-9, Romans 8:5-6

This calls for having a heavenly mindset. Being heavenly minded fashions a Christian to be Holy and worthy vessel always. It assures a good ending in the Christian race and commands heavenly reward. The devil attacks the mind of Christians by flooding it with sin and makes it inconducive for the Holy Spirit but remember - Matthew 11:12.

B) DEAD AND HID IN CHRIST - Colossians 3:3-4, Galatians 2:20, 2 Timothy 2:11-13

The greatest gift that man received so far is the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ - John 12:23-26. To inherit the blessings from Christ's death and resurrection, there must be a conscious identification with His death which means that we must die too - this is the mystery of being born again - John 3:3-6, John 12:24.

These are what we gain when we die in Christ;

1) Our life is hid in Christ- Colossians 3:4 - This call for allround protection including the preservation of our souls.

2) Dead to sin and self - Romans 6:18, Romans 6:11

3) Freedom - Romans 6:7

4) We are made righteous - Romans 5:19, Romans 6:18

5) Death is no more our master - Romans 6:9

6) We are alive with Christ - Romans 6:8, Ephesians 2:6

7) Our old man is crucified - Romans 6:6

C) PUT TO DEATH/MORTIFY YOUR MEMBERS - Colossians 3:5-9, Romans 6:12-14

Until you deal with 'self' , sin will continue to rule you. There must be the continuous faith and remembrance of the crucifixion of the flesh on the cross to be able to deal with the flesh - Romans 6:6. The following bring wrath of God and must be put off :

1) Sexual immorality - 1 Cor. 6:18, 1 Thess 4:3-5, Eph 5:3

2) Uncleanness/impurity - Ephesians 4:19, 1 Thess 4:7, Ephesians 5:3

3) Lust/inordinate affection - 1 Timothy 6:9, James 1:15, 1 John 2:16

4) Evil desires/evil concupiscence - Galatians 5:16-17, Psalm 141:4

5) Greed/covetousness/idolatry - Proverb 13:11, Luke 12:15, Hebrew 13:5

6) Lie not - Leviticus 19:11, Proverb 12:22, John 8:44

7) Anger - Ecclesiastes 7:9, Ephesians 4:26-31

8) Rage - Proverb 29:11, Proverb 15:1

9) Malice - Titus 3:3, Genesis 4:5, 1 Peter 2:1

10) Slander - James 4:11, Proverb 10:18, Psalm 101:5

11) Filthy languages/ Foulmouthed abuse - Ephesians 5:4, Ephesians 4:29

CONCLUSION

Live a worthy life to show of your reign in Christ. God forbid that we are saved to serve sin and Satan. "God is looking for dead men".
