Summary: This outline takes a look at seven significant "ifs", five of which are found in I John 1:5-10. The seven "ifs" cover a variety of subjects.

IF

“If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. ” I John 1:10.

I. THE FIVE "IFS" OF I JOHN 1:5-10.

THE "IF" OF REVEALED HYPOCRISY:

“If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.” (verse 6).

THE CURATIVE “IF” OF FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD:

“But if we walk in the light as He is in the light; we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” (verse 7).

THE DECEIVING “IF” OF FOOLISH PRIDE:

“If we say that we have not sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” (verse 8).

THE BOASTFUL “IF” THAT BLASPHEMES GOD:

“If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and the truth is not in us.” (verse 10).

THE "IF" THAT ASSURES COMPLETE FORGIVENESS AND CLEANSING OF OUR SIN:

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (verse 9).

II. THE "IF" OF SPIRITUAL HEALING:

“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” II Chronicles 7:14

III. THE "IF" OF RATIONAL THINKING:

“Now there were four leprous men at the entrance of the gate; and they said to one another, ‘Why are we sitting here until we die? If we say, ‘We will enter the city’, the famine is in the city, and we shall die there. And if we sit here, we die also. Now therefore, come, let us surrender to the army of the Syrians. If they keep us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall only die."

II Kings 7:3-4.
